The NCAA should give Penn State the 'Death Penalty' and cite 'lack of institutional control'. It happened at Tulane and SMU for lesser offenses. No one needs to cry that shutting down the football program would hurt innocent people. The NCAA pulled the trigger on the two aforementioned programs without regard to the innocent people associated with those schools.

JoPa got off easy and simply croaked. Hubris and ego were his motivators. Neither are kind bedfellows.

Yeah, I can imagine the PSU freaks genuflecting over the saint's grave right now.

He may survive the 1,000 or so years in prison he gets. That's a lot of back crackings, but you never know. Hopefully, the football program will keep going on. Football is very important, nay, vital, to the welfare of both PA, and the very foundations on which this country was founded. We did defeat the indigenous in sports, if I remember my history right.

"Taking into account the available witness statements and evidence, it is more reasonable to conclude that, in order to avoid the consequences of bad publicity, the most powerful leaders at Penn State University—Messrs. Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley—repeatedly concealed critical facts relating to Sandusky's child abuse from the authorities, the Board of Trustees, Penn State community, and the public at large," Mr. Freeh said.

"This is a typical Authoritarian (Right Wing) story"

Actually, I have to correct you.

This is f*#king disturbing at best. The fact that it could even be viewed as "typical" is despicable.

It's a sad testament to the sorry state of the United States. I spose Penn State and the program were job creators, like the tobacco companies.

This just in:

The NCAA is investigating that sports powerhouse Caltech for academic
improprieties - a number of student athletes were taking classes before
being officially registered. Mon dieu! Now you can get in trouble for
actually taking a class? And I doubt it was Basket-weaving for Jocks 101.

This isn't because of football, the athletic department, Penn State, universities in general, sports, etc.

This is the end result of an institutional mindset that infests all kinds of organizations - from the Post Office to the Police Department to the little water company I went to war with last month.

The people involved in these institutions have been convinced they're all part of something larger than themselves.

So, if the institution is bigger than you, and bigger than the janitor and the defensive coordinator, it's sure as hell more important than the ten-year-old being raped in the shower.

And getting someone in one of these organizations to do what they know is the right thing to do is like pulling f*#king teeth.

Paterno needs to be exhumed, and reintered in the landfill. He's turning out to have been just as big a skunk as I suspected.

Common misconception, Silver.

It actually costs far more to execute a prisoner than to incarcerate him for life.
