Have you seen to new TPD team photo with 2 sups , 3 bikes, the boat, and the waterbikes? Jeebus. Dont forget your supyoga with your dog, who will be doing supilates. Better to sit on a dock with beers and watch women in bikinis do it, thats the only way I can stand it.

This awesome film was produced by my good friend Mike Waltze and it also features a whole bunch of my Maui friends and a host of other dynamic individuals from all over the globe.
In my opinion this piece of work answers the question of, Is SUP As Boring As It Looks?
After viewing this I am sure that you will agree with me in that it surly is just that boring!

Did anyone notice that the cover of SUP magazine was the Owens River with the Eastern Sierras in the background? I was, er, distracted and did not at first recognize the setting...

Just tried it in Hawaii last week. Had not surfed in about 10 years and had a blast riding some small waves on the giant stable board. Prolly a good core work out too. Heck... if it gets you out there moving around in a beautiful environment, how can you knock it.

It's quite hilarious when people disparage something they obviously know nothing about.
A few weeks ago I was with my bro in Malibu on sups and watched a bunch of surfers giving him the stink eye. After a while of no good waves a set of small waves came through and he got 3 good rides in a row while everyone else watched. It was great to see many of their exPressions change from derision to desire.

Fun, particularly if you ever had the urge to stand up and look around while in a canoe or kayak. I'd imagine whitewater or surf would be pretty gripping.
This video I made yesterday, on the other hand, is in fact pretty boring:

I already started taking lessons here in San Diego at MBAC.
Very fun. Flat water one thing, and easy to do since I have the skiing, skating, and some surfing background. But even the flat-water and core workout is fun.
But what I'm really excited about is getting out in small waves at first. That's really what I want to do is surf SUP. 10 to 1 ratio of catching waves. That's what I've witnessed here at La Jolla Shores.
The video of Laird Hamilton surfing his SUP and walking all over the thing like its a ballroom dance floor is pretty inspirational.

Cliff Dwellers: Standup paddling and Climbing in Texas
By Dave Costello
Photos by Wes Walker
12 page article with lots of images
From the SUP Paddler Magazine
Fall 2012
Great inspirational article on standup paddle boarding as a means to explore, camp, and climb remote climbing crags surrounded by bodies of water for deep water soloing or setting up routes in a new kind of remote venue. The story is good and the images are pretty cool.
They are exploring by paddle board the Lower Pecos River Canyon near the Mexican border. The limestone is looks incredible and nearly endless in quantity. Just paddle up to a wall with your shoes already on and start climbing. You partner holds onto your board while you climb taking great images. Switch. Repeat.
Pretty darn cool.
I'd like to post some images of the article sometime. We'll see.

^^^ In case nobody noticed, this woman is not standing up, nor is she paddling, but I have to agree she is not boring. She was very sweet to me when we met and quite well-informed on Camp 4, Republicans, Paul Ryan's climbing feats, etc.

I've read a bunch here & elsewhere blah blah blah .....you're out in the World under your own power.
Sounds perfect.
I watch the SUP folk from the Cliffs, sometimes. Looks like they like it.

SUP rocks period. My wave catch ratio is 4-1 over surfers. I can get to the break quicker, you don't feel like bait before day break or after sunset. Surfers are always asking do you see a set coming... Out of respect I let them have first choice most times.
Down wind runs are the best, wave bump heaven.. 30 knot trades & 15 mile down wind paddles are priceless
Aloha & be well

SUP is popular in Newport Beach Ca. but is done mostly by those with a large disposable income who have a lot of time on their hands. The boards are pricey.
I watched them tool around in the Harbor a bunch but nothing crazy or exciting ever happened. Chicks with thier little poodles riding the nose or with a radio on the board were about it.
All for seeing them in thier bikinis though.
As far as a workout I didn't see much but leisurely paddling. Sure you could kick it up to a workout but didnt see anybody doing that. Slacklining is a way better core workout as well as our climbing pursuits.
Into kickin back and lookin cool? SUP is for you! Want something to do in the water and have the cash to burn? SUP is for you.
