It is irrelevant what "made" him murder and esp in the context that DF and Norton are suggesting that it was political rhetoric of a given party which motivated him. The tragic murders cannot be reasonably attributed to that stimulus or else we should end ALL political discussion. Using this insane logic one could argue that "yes we can" could be interpreted to mean "yes we can do anything we want" which we know is certainly not the case. There is no reason to gag or blame anyone as both Norton and DF are not very subtly suggesting.
Actually, our own profession has been down this road before:
So, we had a situation a couple of years back, where a right wing fundamentalist christian group advocated that violence against doctors and their families that performed abortions was to be encouraged. They began publishing on their website the home addresses of doctors, with targets on maps of their locations. As acts of violence/acts of death were undertaken against doctors on this list, their names were marked through.
SAN FRANCISCO — A federal appeals court ruled yesterday that anti-abortion activists who created Wild West-style posters and a Web site targeting abortion doctors are liable because their works were illegal threats and not free speech. a jury awarded $12 million in general damages, but awarded $108.5 million in punitive damages.
Four doctors testified they feared for their lives, and sued under racketeering laws and the 1994 law that makes it illegal to incite violence against abortion doctors. During trial, targeted abortion doctors testified they used disguises, bodyguards and bulletproof vests, and instructed their children to crouch in the bathtub if they heard gunfire.
A federal judge and the Portland jury found in 1999 that the Web site and some of the posters were "true threats to kill" because the abortion doctors were being tormented and three of them murdered. Once killed, their names were crossed off the list on the Web site.
Neal Horsley, the Carrollton, Ga., man who runs the Nuremberg Files Web site, said he will remain online.
"I'll add six judges to the Web site," he said in reference to the six judges who sided with the doctors.

An idiot? Have you seen data on firearm-related crime rates in the U.S. compared to other developed countries? Some of the worse.
We also have some of the most liberal gun laws out of developed countries.
What an odd coincidence! Not being able to see the connection, now that is idiotic.

Chaz:
Norton, Dr F,
Your side can avoid looking like chumps if you could only wait the bodies are cold before trying to make political advantage of a mass murder.
They'll be cold tomorrow, if you can wait that long.
In the meantime, say a prayer. It couldn't hurt.
When there has been a move to incite violence against a specific person, and then that specific person has been harmed, it is a little disingenuous to call people who are outraged chumps.

LEB said:
If Palin should be blamed for "inciting hatred" then DF, Norton, Weschrist Bob D'A et al. should REALLY be blamed for the various crimes in society. They incite all manner of hatred with their vile rhetoric here toward all conservatives (and esp like me). Should we hold them accountable the next time a conservative is bumped off by a psychopath?
I don't see them with a map of conservative homes with gun sights focused on them, suggesting that liberals RELOAD.
No. That is not the message.

Show me DF where Palin said xyz people should be "taken out" You, on the other hand have suggested violence against me zillions of times and it would never occur to me to blame you for anything which happened to me.
LOOK at the copies of Palin's website that have been reproduced in this thread, multiple times.
DF has NEVER published your address with a gunsight on it.

LEB says:
It is NOT a bad thing for them. There is no need to defend against it. No one ever advocated killing the Congresswoman. For anyone in an official position to defend it, would be to dignify it with a response.
Here is the video advocating the killing, if the election went the wrong way. In fact, the Congresswoman just won the election! Damn, that was the wrong outcome (from the standpoint of the GOP). So--here is the alternative! And just for LEB, is a very prominent GOP member trying to defend it by walking it back. I guess that would be dignifying it!!

Sarah Palin and Sharon Angle will bear the brunt of the responsibility for this, as will FauxNews
Actually, I think this is exactly correct. But I think that the reason will be that Angle is powerless, so irrelevant. Palin is powerful, but the other candidates are looking for the way to take her down, and this IS THE PERFECT REASON. The mainstream GOP will be a part of that, as well.
Tomorrow on the talk shows, it is going to be brutal, and the GOP will be leading the charge. Palin and Angle, on the other hand, have not the first clue as to how to deal with something like this, and they will react powerfully. It will make them look angry, guilty, violent...the allies of child killers. End of the campaign for Palin.

Hey repub cowards - we know that you actually applaud what happened today,
I don't believe this to be true.
I think the core of the GOP are actually patriotic americans who simply have a different vision. Moderate conservatives are people that I can get along with. John McCain was once one of those people. (but no longer).
But that vision is a very minority opinion, now. So they have to ally themselves with some people that must really make them turn up their noses.
But they still have their good moments. I will say that a Republican made me a proud American when he did this:

Ken,
Show me a printed quote where a GOP leader recommended homicide.
(AP) Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle backed away Tuesday from remarks in which she referred to the Second Amendment right to bear arms and the need to "take ... out" Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Warbler: (AP) Nevada Senate candidate ....
Candidate? Did she get elected?
LEB, she was stating what should happen should the election go the wrong way.........the election went the wrong way, in her case, and in the case of the Arizona Congresswoman. And the solution that she recommended......

Ken: LOOK at the copies of Palin's website that have been reproduced in this thread, multiple times.
Would you please show me than one more time. I would like to take a look at this webpage of Palin wherein she posted a picture of someone or someone's residence in a gun sight. BTW I have never been to Palin's website so if you have kindly direct me via a link to this page. I would like to see it for myself.
Do your own damn looking. It's in this thread about 5 times, about 100 posts back. I'm not doing your work for you.
