My favorite line from this thread so far:

"I think I'll go for ride, bonk on the 22% grade, go home, have a beer and not inject any EPO....and be perfectly happy."

As soon as I get off work, I'm going to do the same. Thanks StahlB, for the reminder!

Sean, this disability "thing" is one of the greatest scams created by the honorable, sincere, and amazing military for themselves.

Any medical problem that a person accumulates over their military career, whether related to their job or not, qualifies for a "rating". At the time of discharge, they undergo a comprehensive disability evaluation. Anything that is found and documented is assigned a percentage, whether related to actual military service or not, such as high blood pressure, prostate cancer, etc. Also, some things that clearly are, such as severe combat wounds.
If they have a rating over 30%, I think, they qualify for an additional disability pension. I believe they also qualify as a disabled person for park passes, etc.

Here is an excellent review of the process:

http://www.rand.org/pubs/monographs/MG369.html

"In addition, many retirees with a VA disability rating report no health or disability problem that limits their work in the civilian labor market. These findings suggest that the military disability rating system may no longer be valid."

Not to shed the simple daylight of REALITY here, but, uh, with all due respect, exactly how are the injuries of a disabled vet IN ANY WAY related to the topic at hand?
"This is not Nam, there are rules!" - Big Lebowski

Again, Lance never conclusively failed a drug test, despite being the most tested athlete in any country's history.
And even if he did dope, there's tons of anecdotal evidence that all of his competitors were doping, so it was an even field at worst anyway.
Also, has anyone forgotten that he had f#cking serious cancer?!?

Can't you understand that the only people that *out* Lance Armstrong are those who wish publicity for a soon to be published biography? Landis? Check. Hamilton? Check. ETC..........

Chief - much respect, and thanks for your service. Sincerely. Not kidding. Very thankful for you and the rest of the people putting their lives on the line for 'Merican freedom against the evil-doers.
But f*#k off, man. This isn't about your service or your injuries. This thread and topic are about whether spandex-wearing athletes riding on bikes that cost more than cars take performance enhancing drugs, dude. Come on back to Earth and try not to preach about unrelated sh#t.

What do you think gave LA an extremely rare form of cancer among guys his age?

You play with the chemistry kit, you takes your chances. I'm glad I always played it straight, after all, what does a cheater actually win anyway.

Armstrong is a bad guy. How many kids did he have that he had to get away from because they were interfering with his training? If you're that self centered, whats the deal with having to have kids in the first place?

Being a doper aside, just check out his public life and see what you think about his character.

Nick D, what medical school did you go to, to form this expert opinion of this cause, inasmuch as there is no described such link in the medical literature that I can find.

whereas, this type of cancer, which IS rare, IS typically found in guys his age......

Here is a full length interview with Floyd. It is long, but regardless how you feel about him, it is pretty interesting to see how the picture of him evolves during the interview...

Looking back on it, I can see how Landis might have thought his lies would be successful since he had such a good example in Armstrong.

Many years back, while I lived in Southern CA we had Floyd Landis come visit the area (he was there for a talk or for a benefit that our cycling club was holding...I don't remember the exact reason) and he went for a ride with our cycling club/team. This was after he was busted at the TdF but before he had admitted to anything, during the whole Floyd Fairness Fund thing. We had a guy on our ride who was involved with selling some salt/electrolyte pills for endurance athletes and had developed a dispenser for the pills that fit into your handlebar ends so you could pop an electrolyte tablet while you were riding. He tried to show his product to Floyd and get him on board with trying it out. Floyd said that the last thing he needed was to be seen with a pill dispensing device attached to his bicycle.

I wonder if Armstrong will take the approach on the Oprah Show that there would have been no point in even trying the Tour De France without dope. You're a dope if you do and a dope if you don't! There was a certain pragmatism to all of it. It's such a difficult race that it has almost evolved with doping in mind - otherwise it might make sense to have more rest/recovery days.

Armstrong is an azzhole that shouldn't be given any mercy until he tells the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

No mercy until he comes clean.

He damaged so many people in his wake under the pretext of lies.

There's a report that he even told his doctor when he originally got cancer he did doping of steroids, EPO and etc etc ....
