Only a couple beers, and a glass of Cab so far. Was away canoeing, camping and fishing with my 87-year-old dad for three days. We paddled and portaged 20km in four and a half hours - knott bad for an old fart. He is a big fan of my Gatoritas. With salt, of course.
Heading back to Mammoth Cave, Kentucky for another kick-ass trip over Labour Day. Being a sherpa to help move a dive team to dive the sumps in Roaring River, then leading my own trip into the deepest darkest reaches of Roppel Cave where more glory awaits.
I anticipate setting a new World's Record in caving this weekend....

Half a bottle of cheap Shiraz while I am perusing an internet dating site and emailing with a guy from Sacramento, very geographically undesirable.
I'm so sorry, Cosmic. I feel for your loss of arm...
I am heading to the gym tomorrow for my first time pulling plastic since I injured myself in April. 17 weeks since I have climbed.

I don't post much, but I you're one cool cat cosmiccragsman. You cheer up my days, so let me atleast cheers in your direction sir (I know, I know, I would rather smoke aswell but its all I can do).
eh, rule 2. I've had 4 beers and a shot. I haven't drank in awhile so I'm graduating from the tipsy leagues.
Rule 3 is something inflammatory? eh. I never liked that one ron guy on here. I'm too drunk to care to find him but I digress. Also, I hate when people end most sentences in a bunch periods. Theres no reason to imply so much. Just sack up and say what you think, or don't say sh#t.
Rule 4. Don't talk about drunkclub?
Rule 5. Shout out to pass the pitons pete, brian from slc, apogee, the french (most all of them), ron howard, the olson twins (nah), and that one guy that looks like jerry garcia but is cool as f*#k and post on here.

OK, so it's only Thursday. At least, that's what my watch reads. But when you're a dirtbag, every day is Friday. Especially when you are in Kentucky, about to embark on a couple kick-ass exploration and survey trips into the World's Longest Cave, where you are pretty much guaranteed to set a New World's Record.
How many of YOU wankers are going to set a new World's Record this weekend, eh?
Or should I say, "huh?"
So I had a couple beers, now I'm here at the El Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant in Cave City, Kentucky, which amazingly features the best Mexican food I have ever had anywhere, and I have travelled all through California sampling. The only place that holds a candle in comparison is the little gas station at the crossroads in Pescadero, CA. It's really close to Butano State Park and Whale City Bakery. Anyone been to such places?
So yeah, um, two margaritas on the rock con much sel. Ole!
Off to the Cave Research Foundation Hamilton Valley Facility, where more beers are certain to be involved.

PTTP! Have a great weekend caving.
We're just chillin in the smoke here in Idaho.
I'm back to the Idaho redneck basics:
Watching Boise State somehow beating Michigan State in Fartball at the half, and sampling fine red wine.
Sluuuuurp!
Wolf Season opens today!

No drinking for me tonight. I'm trying some strain of funky kush instead.
But to help loosen up your elbows, here's a tuneful Spoonful melody from the vintage years.

My goodness, it's 9:30pm and I only have half a beer in me. Sheesh. Gotta remedy this shortfall forthwith. Voice of Snagglepuss: "And fifth-with, even. Exit, stage right."
Yes, it is true - I did indeed set a New World's Record last weekend in Kentucky. We discovered, explored and surveyed about 800' of brand new passage, so the world's longest cave is that much longer still.
The first trip was about eight hours - we surveyed a crawlway that at least 999 people had walked by 1998 times, without ever bothering to check it. Beyond was a Secret Mud Gallery a couple hundred feet long, ten feet high and twenty feet wide. Not bad for a warmup trip. There is an unchecked cross canyon at its north end.
The second trip went 25 hours, we surveyed an upper level I had bolted into a few trips before, and we continued the survey of a muddy passage that ends overlooking a vast gulf which turns out to be the main passage below. Finally, we surveyed into a dome series. We put the laser disto onto the ceiling, it was 152 feet high!
I made up lots of coffee to keep us surveying through the middle of the night. On the way out of the cave, we really blasted fast. I had to keep stopping to wait for the guy half my age to catch up to me.
Dang, all this typing is making me thirsty.
Note: The next Friday Night post will be made from the Centre of the Universe. See you on the El Cap bridge Wednesday!

Did I say USC sucks yet?
Cuz they blew the huge spread last week. It's a 26 point spread against the O'Syracushnahs, who aren't patsies. We'll see.
Oh, I am planting myself in front of the TV to watch College Football in whichever shape or form. (Excuse #2012)

Well, I got my Rope Gun Jon back from Jolly Roger, so I wanted something with some free climbing. We chose Genesis - we get the mellow start* on New Dawn, the kick ass bivis at Lay Lady Ledge and to the right of the base of Boot Flake, and then onto the route, which comes onto WOEML from the left of the Dawn Roof. Should be fun - Kate said the aid climbing was fairly "moderate" by "our" standards, meaning I will only be moderately terrified. But the free climbing is pretty runout, though Shipoopoi says it's not too hard. You know, if you can actually free climb. Which I can't.
So it will be big wall camping at its finest.
Bring your jugs and come along and join us while we are fixing and hauling the first few days. Beers are certain to be involved!
*The fourth pitch of New Dawn is currently harder than anything on Grape Race - pretty thin. I expect some fixed gear has been pulled. Real A3, for sure.

Geez, that's one huge-ass pig, man!
[When I receive photos taken through the mirror, I am far more accustomed to them being of naked girls]
However, it is one fine pig indeed.

Getting drunk on my rum ration in Neah Bay, Washington (which we had to supply our own since Neah Bay is a dry Indian reservation. Any way....time to quit the Inside Passage after 2 months, head to sea tomorrow and down the coast to San Francisco. Home just in time to unpack the boat, pack the car and head to Facelift.
