We are YOUNG
HA! Some of you are...some of us get into the National Parks FREE for the rest of lives...and into movies cheaper and buy ibuprofen at Costco (two bottles at a time) ....oh well....
Don't squander a day! Stay healthy for retirement...it's REALLY worth it...and retire as early as you reasonably can...there is nothing more precious than time and health
Ok, enough Mom talk...gotta go practice what I preach...time for a run

I caught a rainbow yesterday ( Monday ):
It wasn't an accident, because look who's standing at the end of it ( me! ):
Your Pot Of Gold comes in many forms, and it works in mysterious ways.

I love it when a plan doesn't come together!
Based on wind and tide forecasts, the plan yesterday ( Tuesday ) was to head down to Seattle and try my luck getting kite-photos of the Alki Point Lighthouse. I've been wanting that one for a while now. But because record breaking heat was also in the forecast, and I have my #1 Dog in tow, I switched plans that morning.
Plan-B was to take a ferry to San Juan Island, where my cousin is a part-time resident, and see if I could get kite-pics of the lighthouse at Cattle Point, and have a few cold ones with my cousin.
After a cool ferry trip through breathtaking scenery ( I've done this run a dozen times - and it never gets old - if you are ever in this part of the country, I can't recommend a ferry trip through the San Juan Islands highly enough ) I found my cousin was out of town, and the wind at Cattle Point was light-your-bong-with-a-paper-match ( which is legal in WA ) calm.
The Cattle Point Lighthouse may not be the ugliest lighthouse on the West Coast, but it is at least tied for that distinction. However, it sits on stunningly scenic ground, so the two or three hours ( I'm a patient guy when it comes to getting my shots ) I spent flying a kite that would lift nothing heavier than its own string went by very quickly as I soaked in the views.
But at the end of the day, I was skunked again. I'm now 0-for-3 at that butt-ugly little lighthouse. Business yet unfinished. At least my cousin wasn't around to harass and laugh at me this time.
What made my day, however, was some real serious WHALE WATCHING! The Haro Strait is known for its world class whale watching. I always thought whale watching was pure hokum spread by boat skippers as a way to fill an empty fish boat with gullible tourists, and fill their wallets with what once was the tourists' cash. And it probably is. But because I'm an optimistic guy, I brought along the twelve-powers ( binoculars ) to Cattle Point, just in case.
After I folded my kites, and was about to call it a day and head back to the Friday Harbor ferry terminal, I thought I'd take a look through the binoc's and see what the people out in the whale watching boats looked like.
Within seconds of putting glass to eye, I saw what I estimate to be a half-dozen Killer Whales!
I've never seen a whale before in my life, and now I've seen a bunch of whales.
I'll remember this day forever, even though not one of my plans worked out.
I love it when a plan doesn't come together!
