The Auger Inn Express
They were on a midnight roll
From Shanghai out to Mandalay
Wondering on which way to go
With nowhere left but thataway
Under low clouds in a blackout
Below the moonless sky
The altimeter was on the blink
To a man no one was left alive
Seventy five long years ago
Their tomb a tragic mystery
Beneath the trees of Myanmar
Once Burma now is history
A Beech 18 then low on fuel
But that wasn’t the worst of it
An elevator cable failed
Right when one engine quit
They were on a midnight roll
From Shanghai out to Mandalay
Wondering on which way to go
With nowhere left but thataway

for neebee--
Since the subject of movies has come up, I was wondering if one had been made about what's been called the Fetterman Fight/Massacre at Fort Phil Kearny during Red Cloud's War. One of the books that I am currently reading (I have two to four going at any one moment, usually) is The Heart of Everything That Is, a Red Cloud history. He was a Sioux leader and rode rings around the US Army shortly after the Civil War. His gang beat Fetterman's gang. Decisively.
So, in looking for yet more westerns, I came on this title, "The Massacre at Fort Phil Kearny." It's from the sixties. Richard Egan and Carrol O'Connor get the leads, but ROBERT FULLER was given the role of Capt. Fetterman, whose outfit was wiped out/rubbed out/massacred in a very short time one cold winter day.
His company was snookered into chasing after a party of wily Sioux and paid the price for ignoring the commander's warning to stay within sight of the fort.Oops and war whoops.
Then I noticed this image on Google Images, as well.I've never heard of this one, but it sure sounds familiar somehow...
I remember a visit from an actual Fuller Brush man in Sacramento when I was quite young. I think Mom bought a toilet brush that day. I know she was a sucker for magazine subscriptions as well.
