Here's a photo from the front page of the Merced County Times, the freebie.
It shows Greatest Generation Veteran Dorothea Eldredge exchanging pleasantries with Ryan Mercado, 3,
during the Veterans Day parade on Main St. last weekend.
There are two other photos back in the recent pages here of this long-lived vet.
I also found out why there was a lack of band music during that event. The bands were out on East Childs Avenue in front of Golden Valley HS for the Central California Band Review. This event was long ago held on Main Street when it was a full six lanes (two for parking, four for traffic) back in the sixties. It's been moved around a bunch of times, but the event is now back in Merced, as it's central to the area bands.

Gritty living around Thanksgiving.
Guy's gotta doss somewhere, don't he?
As long as there is sidewalk, he's good.
Leash? You kidding?
Icky maggots.

The eerie feeling of no one busy doing anything AT ALL,
coupled with the remnant foggy atmosphere and the attitude of some of the street denizenry
was hard to ditch.
Girl waking on a bench: "Buy me some coffee." Like, yeah, I'm here for that.
And her BF on the next bench thumb-punching his device: "Don't take my picture unless you pay me." Like, yeah, I'm here to do that, too.
I went around the corner into the empty lot where the Kialee Market used to reside.
I looked at the gallery there on the wall of the old Reinero's Restaurant, braced by stout beams of pine to hold it erect,
with its panels of scorched paint, running dirty water, and brick.

You Know Nothing, John Snow
Just a carapace or hull
Or a hollowed out skull
When no longer the you
Not the you you once knew
When no longer the one
Who once under the sun
Did with foresight and purpose
Such bold things just for fun
You'll know time is the bandit
And a thief of the light
Who absconds with our youth
In the middle of the night
Like the people we've loved
The world slowly fades
As we walk from the sunlight
And into the shade
Are we destined to dwindle
On the course we have set
For the halls of Valhalla
Or a place in Tibet?

Cooking With Miss Soul Over the Holidays
With the fervent wish that her casserole dish was the hit of November
She went on to find out that there was no doubt that her mousse was the dessert they'd remember

Only the Loathly
I'm not a religious man
Can't say I believe in much
On the power of good and evil
Let's say some have an evil touch
If Jesus visited the White House
To check on things 'round there
Would they even bid him welcome
Or offer him a beer?
Don't know much about religion
I don't think there's much to tell
But if god himself went there to call
He could not stand the smell
If I'm only a loathsome sinner
I'd say that's just as well
At least I'm not like Donald Trump
Who's working his way to hell
I don't have a crystal ball now
And my politics don't quite fit
If his wealthy compadres joined him there
I would not give a ....
Can't say I believe in religion
And I'm rarely a travelin' man
But the way this country is heading
I'll be moving to Mazatlan

That was acute one, bushman.
NOW go stuff yerself. With turkey.
I'm done, too, I reckon...it is the holiday eve, I got my feast over at the Grocery Outlet, and it's time to kick the feet up and snore for an hour.
God bless all you other turkeys.

One example of historical Fake News?
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2006/11/23/273864/-
We forfeited our country. Our lands have fallen into the hands of the aggressor. We have allowed the white man to keep us on our knees. What has happened cannot be changed, but today we must work towards a more humane America, a more Indian America, where men and nature once again are important; where the Indian values of honor, truth, and brotherhood prevail.
Oh, that's happening for sure as we sit here licking our hog-toughs
and wait eagerly for football
because there is a kind and benevolent government in Washington
watching out for our interests.
Don't EVER call me "Pilgrim" again, Mr. Wayne.
