Owe I Oh Eye

I had this life
It was my own
I thought
Now I'm not so sure
I question everything
To wit
My lot
Be that as it may
My independence
Is intrinsically linked
To what I've lost
And to what I'm not

Sitting Duck

Collective eyes on the shoreline
Ripples meander unaware of who they touch
Glimmering surface reflects a doubtless moon
and fireflies abandon all hope of neon goals

Stone and sand meet in driftwood destinies
Autumn grips the night with postcard tendrils
Feet beneath water paddle slowly,
hiding in plain sight in the center of this liquid target

Alone on the wrinkles of waterlogged bed sheets
Silence finds no home here
while voices cackle and point slanderous fingers
and buoyancy is in question

Words fly like arrows in cultivated sentences on thin air
When what was once sacred sinks
into the stagnant reaches of heartless ink
and I wait--a sitting duck

Today while web surfing I came up with this:
All my searching for knowledge and wisdom and bliss
Has gained me but little but it is what it is
But some poems I've penned might be hard to dismiss

Like "Death and Satisfaction," which was what I thought about calling that ditty.
A jingle, at best.

I might try writing another one using that title, but feel free to use it yourselves--
hey, you won't get rich and I won't either from making poems.

And I frankly don't know what it means.

And then, I could have signed it D.O. de los Muertosz, too...gee whiz.

During Día de Muertos festivities, food is both eaten by living people and given to the spirits of their departed ancestors as ofrendas. Tamales are one of the most common dishes prepared for this day for both purposes.

It's a big day in Otay, even bigger in Chiapas.

The Kingdom of Non

The Rabbit Republic and Nation of Hares
At war with each other
The mothers all cried
So with daughters and wives
Their sons kept enlisting and giving their lives

The Fox Federation kept shedding their blood
In conflict with the Coyote Commonwealth
Where the Coyote Youth Movement enlisted their pups
To train for guerrilla warfare and stealth

The world kept on turning while the citizens died
For god, clan, and country
They shared all their hopes
For prosperity, dominion, or just to survive
While their leaders just lied

We are the animals that populate earth
You might think we've gone far
With technology our warfare's
Efficient and sure
Evolved to the edge of extinction and more
To negate our own birth

We took to the hills for part of the afternoon. Made it out to Snelling and then over to Hornitos and then to Mt. Bullion and back over to 140 on Agua Fria Rd.

Which is where the MacGregors live. They have been lucky this year, as the Detweiler fire came knocking but it couldn't come in.

They were told to evacuate and were gone two months! They stayed with relatives and had a realty agent cousin who had an empty house for the rest of their stay. They lost an old outbuilding but the main house and the one you see were saved.

The fire burned right through really quickly and the slate quarry the other side of the creek was totally torched, though the product was safe after all was said and done. Slate roofs are fireproof roofs.

MARIPOSA SLATE QUARRY, "the homeowner's friend."
