Manteca? The Family City?

Spent part of the day there. Lard have mercy.

g

Edit: The CV has a bunch of silly mottos for its towns and cities. Riverbank - The City of Action. Modesto - Water, Wealth, Contentment and Health. Merced - Gateway to Yosemite. Madera - Gateway to Yosemite. Hmmmm.

Anyone know the Oasis of the Valley? The Jewel of the Valley? Cowboy Capital of the World?

Is there a prize? Is there cat burglars? Do you know the way to Oakdale?
Mommy, what's a Hummer? Daddy said he used to buy them. How deep is the concept of a Whole Earth? Ask this guy.I can dig it. And I can dig that crazy EE Icon, Ike an' Shari Edie. These former in-laws have been hosting EE Weekends for like thirty years. Mole holy frijole that's a lot of Catholic weddings.

Ike and Shari explain various things about Catholicity and birth controllery to engaged couples. Like what's a "hummer"? Has the Pope got one? Has my bishop ever had one? Who's driving?

Have you anything more to say about "Doggie On the Roof," Mr. Romney? Can we move on to "Rolling Stones" now? It is almost Easter, after all.
I'm speaking to you, Do Little Dog Doo Lover.

"knight takes knight, forking the queen" (from actual 1956 Bobby Fischer "game of the century") and if I recall correctly the Cardinal provided the Pope with a hummer (at least it wasn't some little kid - only a pawn in their game?)

it's all been said before, it's all been written in the book (but now we have the internet and Youtube)

Mouse, if ya wanna crack up Larry/Lavrenty/Pablo salute him the next time you see him with

**"shto novovo, moi stari bzdyokh!"

The phonetic would be: shto noevava, moy starry bzdyokh, with the kh being waay back on the palate.

Trust me, it'll crack him up! And it isn't really anything bad. :-)

Film shot locally by Andy Warhol in 1968 to premiere in La Jolla

I was living in Berkeley then, but maybe I was in town for a visit. Sure hope he got me on film. I'll be there for the opening, hope Mitt makes it too.

I gotta say, young Sergei was a hoot and, as they also say in France and Spain,
simpatichny/sympa/simpatico.

And, yes, I like the chess very much. Would I be bragging to say I was
undefeated in two months in Soviet Union? Is true - but then Karpov was
whole time dodging me so I was never really tested.

And the 'traffic police' have/had it very good. None of this decadent car
chasing with flashing lights. No, just a subtle come hither waggle of
the finger and we're going to have a little talk. Oh, and you will
pull over, if you know what is good for you.

The guys in the car with me were not pleased with my taking this pic.

Would be hairy if I was in it TTR. I once challenged Dylan and Caruso to a breath holding contest, neither showed up.

Public Service Announcement for the Day concerning why hair never 'catches' cancer.

“Hair isn’t made of cells,” says Leona Samson, professor of biology and biological engineering and an affiliate in the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research. “The stuff that makes hair”—a thready protein called keratin that also forms fingernails—“is produced by cells in the hair follicle. You have to have cells to have cancer.” Though rare, tumors do sometimes form in the cells in the hair follicle. These cancer cells have lost their ability to grow in a way that is appropriate for where they are in the body. A liver cell, for example, may become so deranged that it doesn’t act like a liver cell anymore. Then, when it divides (as cells do), it passes its derangement on, replicating its abnormalities and spreading them.

[There are rumours that folks are working on producing all skin via 3D Printer technology and keratin thereby eliminating some of these things like squamous cell carcinoma (my nemesis) and melanoma (Dave Chalmers'). These have not be substaniated and cannot be considered part of the Announcement therefore.]

I spent a lot of time running around like this. Note my aunt following in the Flames tradition of gentle mockery.

This will demonstrate that I do have shirts that are not orange (burnt or otherwise)

History Annoucment of the Day. Right behind me in the photo, during WWII, there was an underwater fence constructed to keep Japanese (and I would assume also German) submarines out of San Diego Bay. This was pre Otis Redding.

I was never really tested.

Reilly, really? I'm so exhausted from larfing at that. Cheenyus!

Andy Fielding, with regard to your posting of the Cemetery Gates video, The Flames posted it before you, mate; but the Russians are alredy claiming to have posted that video first!

I notice that one New Ideas in Chess. I wonder what year that was published.

Apparently it was 1994.

I'll never forgive them for changing the move notation syntax.

z, don't date yerself, lad. :-}

I just noticed I missed a few, notably my Yasser Seirawan book, one of my
favorites, and not just because it provides a segue you and Mouse will love.

To quote Click & Clack:

"It was a dark and stormy night when out of the inky shadows stepped..."

your humble scribe who in a previous life was known to haunt, in a number
of ways, that great Seattle University District institution The Last Exit
On Brooklyn - truly one of the great coffee houses on the planet. A quick
check on Google generates 955,00 hits. I can assure you only a small portion
of those knew it in its glory years of the 60's and early 70's. You could
order your massively endowed PB&J samich for 25 centavos and get a pot of
Pike Place Market Orange Spice tea and nurse 'em till the cows came home
with only the occassional knowingly couched inquiry from one of the
lovely hippy waitpeople as to whether you would like something else.

But, as this segue is about to reveal, finally, is that the Last Exit was
also The Place for the Seattle chess gliterati. The shining star in this
firmament appeared out of the cosmos, as it were, in the cherubic visage of
one 8 or 9 year old Syrian immigrant named, you guessed it, Yasser Seirawan.
Yes, I can say I witnessed the birth, so to speak, of a genius. I see in
his Wiki bio notes his playing at the Last Exit. If you got game you didn't
dodge the Last Exit, homes!

But I digress...

Five by Five is the second EP by The Rolling Stones and was released in 1964. Captured during a prolific spurt of recording activity at Chess Studios in Chicago that June, Five By Five was released that August in the UK shortly after their debut album, The Rolling Stones, had appeared. The title of Five by Five is a play on words—five tracks recorded by the five members of the band, but we're only guessing, because this is lifted from Wikipedia.
On hand numero dos, we have the imitable 12 x 5, which wss the American version of the five foregoing tracks by our budding band, and was TRENDINGDING even back then, and downright copying the Yosemite institution known as Camp 4, by using the Arabic numerals 12 and 5 on the cover, rather than the same old sh#t. As I said, TRENDINGALING>>>
