Problems US worry Great Deal about in 2014
telling that your graph doesn't list literacy as a problem, much less one that the public would worry about…and there you go thinking you speak for the public…
Got it.

A new NASA study shows Earth's climate likely will continue to warm during this century on track with previous estimates.

Yeah sketch, we know... you prefer absolute and authoritative language backed up by a complete ignorance and lack of any understanding of the subject. I suppose that is why you and chuff get along so well.

It all seems to be little more than a working hypothesis.
Hold on to that belief Sketch.
For me, I'll form my beliefs around what the scientists who study the climate say. And they are saying, unequivocally, that the sh#t is real.

I guess everyone needs to make a living.
Here's a summary of where I think we're at:
1. Mankind's dumping massive amount of CO2 into the atmosphere will in fact cause a certain amount of global warming, due to basic physical and chemical principles that have been known for over a hundred years.
2. The doom-and-gloom projections are based on assumptions that the relatively small amount of warming in (1) will, because of various feedback mechanisms, cause something like an out of control "death spiral."
3. In point of fact, and to mankind's good fortune, it seems that the feedbacks have been negative, and so the warming in (1) has been even less than what may have been reasonably expected. We got lucky!
4. The above points have been greatly complicated and obscured by an industry of "scientists" and opportunists whose livelihoods depend on continued taxpayer funded "studies" and government programs designed to "solve the problem." They may have also been somewhat complicated (more in the past than in the present) by those with an agenda to minimize government regulation.
5. Because of (1), some limited government regulation and further study is useful and desirable, but as far as pressing problems facing the US and the world, the public's ranking of "global warming" is pretty spot on--if you got 20 problems, it's at or near the very bottom.
Seem accurate?

Now blahblah is saying belief in religious dogma is the same as believing in the scientific study of climate change.
How foolish can one be?

One of my favorite things about the deniers is how fast they are to jump on anyone that says extreme weather is a result of climate change... but have no problem redefining "climate" based on convenient 15 year intervals... while ignoring the 100+ year trend.

Here's the problem. All of us believe in science to some extent.
But there are good scientists and bad scientists, and good science and junk science.
The quotation marks I sometimes use are generally to reference bad science, or at least "science" the validity of which is still in dispute.
Things like phrenology (look it up if you want to see how misguided "scientists" can be) used to be regarded as good science; now it would be a silly joke if anyone knew what it was.
Another example is that our government "scientists" classify marijuana as something that has no legitimate medical value. Those of us follow the issue know that is complete BS (not to say I think MJ is great or a cure all, but at least for certain conditions, it obviously has some value for some patients).
Because good science has been so successful in both explaining how many aspects of the world work and being the basis of modern technology, lots of people are basically brain washed into thinking that anything that anyone who calls himself a scientist says is true.
I'm not against good science, just bad "science." Some of my best friends are scientists (well at least one guy I used to climb with was a CU chemistry post-doc, before he moved away).
At least some people on this thread think they've poked some holes in the dominant paradigm (or think others have poked holes, and they're reporting on that). I'm not even saying those people are right--just give 'em a chance to speak their peace and consider the merits of what they have to say.
