Don't You Know?
It's so crazy
You all know
What people will do for money
What lengths that people would go to
For prestige
Oh it ain't funny
Say to me
What you would
All your fancy cars and boats
And expensive homes
Won't provide you any cover
There ain't nothin' you can show
For such pride, conceit, and power
But trampled hearts
And broken lives
Until the reckoning
On that fateful day and hour
Say say say
What you would
All your greed and need to show
Your extravagance
It won't last forever brother
What truly lasts
What's most important
Some people don't have a clue
Infrequent are
Those folks I've known
Who really do
Say say say
Troubles can be had
By the day and by the hour
They don't last
Forever don't you know?

It's odd that Dingus came across the article about Missus Moffat and posted it as I was deliberating posting this article.

Circumspect Lab Coat Types
Big brother says
Go it your own way
When the time is right
Or when you're old and gray
But big bro says
When fortune comes your way
Don't forget your friends
Or what they have to say

From “Mountaineering in Frackistan”
by Bull O’Nay
We had chosen, as a base-camp for our little expedition, a postage-stamp of a meadow through which a ribbon of ice-water ran, the product of a snowfield at the base of our objective. From there obtained a delightful sunrise view of much of the surrounding terrain.
Next morning, I studiously ignored the pan and spoon of L and his outcries meant to chivvy us from our blanket rolls. Others, I saw, were just as tired as I from the previous day’s exertions and responded to the noise by burrowing further into their nests. I lay there enjoying the effect of the sunrise light upon the scene before Mother Nature got the better of me and sent me off into the bushes.
Breakfast had waited nearly an hour by the time I had finished my ablutions in the icy rivulet in the meadow.
An older Indian and his mate, plus their two huge children, were silent as they waited for us to begin our meal. They watched every forkful of food into our mouths, despairing of anything to be shared, which apparently is their “way.” Their faces were glum until L began his flapjacks routine.
L was, simply put, the quintessential expert on cooking flapjacks and he loved to show his skill. This flapjack-frier scorned vulgar single mid-air turns as beneath him. He would sling the flapjack up with a bold flick of his wrist and slight spring in his knees and a look of extreme concentration made his eyes squint tightly shut, almost. The jack would turn three times while his hand ostentatiously swirled the grease in the pan in a centrifugal manner. It would be caught gently in the pan as it fluttered down. The pan would be spanked upon the hot coals of the campfire with a touch both graceful and masterly.
It is almost sacrilege to eat such works of art, but we forced ourselves to do so. As for the Indian family, they were allowed to scramble for frequent misfortunate cakes which fell into the fire, dodging L’s pan.
[Apologies to Clarence King.]

Cheers, Dingus.
I made my annual (surreptitious) pilgrimage to "What is 'Mind,'" this morning. I can see the appeal, I just don't dig the overall seriousness.
It's more alive than "1977 Airplane Crash in Yosemite," however.
