Gordo was correct. KD and I blasted from the OC, climbed it and were back in around 48 hours. We stopped to swim in the Colorado River on the way back.

What a beautiful and awesome desert mountain it is!

The younger KD on the summit.

Wow Dave, 48hrs from the OC really is a blast.

Deb and I were just out in the area last week. There are a whole line of those plugs running through the Rez.

Do any of the others get climbed?

Stopped by ogle Spider Rock again.

Skimmed through this great thread again. Not sure if it has been mentioned, but find it curious the first ascent was on "Columbus Day".

Is there any on-line register of the non-legal ascents?

For many of the illegal ascents, statute of limitations has probably long expired. Same with many illegal buildering escapades on campuses.

I am joking, of course. Just because your friends write your your name in a summit register doesn't mean you're guilty. Plausible deniability rules...unless you posted summit shots on Facebook.

Were we talking about Ship Rock?!

It would be interesting to hear tales of the FAs of the harder aid lines found on the formation, like the routes put up in the 70s/80s on the West Face (West Sanctum, Cowboys and Indians, Wild West, others?). Have these even seen any repeats ascents?

I want to do it with my wife this spring. Problem is, she’s from England and has a thing about obeying the law...not one of my problems. Is there a way of getting permission?!

Donini, I suggest contacting the tribal government. Might be easy to get permission but also may be impossible. Never know until you try! Also, there was a Navajo climber that posted on this forum in years past who was looking for people to climb with.

There have been a number of posts here by Diné climbers generously offering to shepherd crankloons.
