"Palin is a good and honest person for failed to meet the approval of the "elite" who look down at everyone and anyone who does not support their (rather socialistic) agenda."

I know, those damn commie elitists probably even know that Africa is a continent and not a country.

JL,

I have been lurking here and posted once, and agree.. circle jerk. Anyways, I've been looking at the www.dividedwefail.org site and it looks to be a non-partisan look at how we should all join together, dems and repubs alike for the common good, health care for our children and grandchildren, and making sure we take care of those who can't take care of themselves. I'm not sure it's a great thing, and may get blasted for bringing it up, but that's cool. I'm thinking of ways to unite, and not divide... Remember the quote: "United we Stand, Divided we Fall"? Of course, we all remember it, and would do well to take heed to our founding fathers advice!

I saw some of the Palin interviews, and I honestly wondered if her inability to answer some of the questions wasn't just the result of overanalyzing the ramifications of potential responses. What would the political fallout of answering "Fox News" or "Miranda vs. Arizona" be? Would it offend people's sense of nationalism to call Africa a continent - maybe it would be better to call it a country.

Anyway, thought some of you might find that to be a reasonable explanation for her responses.

Trying to debate with LEB is just like the debate between Palin and Biden. They dont get it.

The reason that the republicans lost was because they did not have a path forward. I watched, read and studied all throughout the whole thing the entire year.

The GOP simply did not have a message. They were good at trying to be devisive. But after attempting to use an open mind and absorb what McCain said, it boiled down to the fact that he did not have a clear plan.

Obama was smart. While I may not agree with all his plans he at least shared enough that I got it.

One more thing. It is refreshing to hear great speaches that unify the country as opposed to divide it. He is a great orator and can communicate to people. Kind of a 190 from dubya.

Josh:
This Africa thing was reported as something a McCain aide learned while talking to Ms Palin. No other information is available as to context. Well, let me be more accurate. I have not been able to find any further information.

Jim:
Right now I am running short on C4 as there has been so much demand for it. But for 40% more per ton we can supply you with all the C5 that you need. I am in the wholesale business so I sell by the ton. For Europeans(and Canadians) I sell by the tonne.

I have found people in my business have to pay real attention to the sensitivities of our customers.

Lois, Palin is a dork, she is a deeply stupid woman. You would fire her if she worked for you. Yes, she comes across as a good sport (she laughed at herself on SNL)she is calculatibly personable. She believes the Flintstones are an accurate view of history. She doesn't know the nations of North America. Then there is the whole Africa thing.

I'm sure she is a pleasant person in real life. She wouldn't be a bad neighbor if you don't mind her spraying your weeds with agent Orange, for your own good.

Let it go.

You, for reasons I can only vagueley understand, backed a total loser. There is tomorrow. You could have a viable candidate on your side in the future, stranger things have happened. Don't get invested in this nincompoop.

That said, Palin in '12, I beg of you.

Juan, please, I BEG of you, go vote again.

FREE SARAH. LET SARAH BE SARAH.

Sarah is the greatist gift ever given to the Democrats.
And the Repups are dumb enough to run her in the future.

RUN SARAH RUN. RUN in 2012 and RUN FOREVER.
God, and Juan, and the Democrats, want you to be the future
of the Republican party.

jstan - thanks - I hadn't seen that in the interviews. Sorry if that sounded like a seriously reasoned explanation of those gaffes - just struggling to make sense of people's support for her ..

Nature, just read your 2:19 pm post. Still at work so can't say much...just wanted to add that your comments are thoughtful, constructive and lend towards a discussion that is more inclusive than divisive.

PS. I agree with several posters...wondering. I've read a few of J.L.'s Threads. This one strikes me as a little odd. Could someone have commandeered Mr. Largo's computer or password info ? Say, just wonderin'. Lynne

jstan,

Put me down for 80 tons of that C5. I want to prove something to LEB. Do you think 80 tons is enough?

For that task I fear you will have to use my product NUC100E6.

That product, however, is rather pricey.

At the moment of the Palin choice it made perfect sense on paper.

At the time, energy was the central issue (Palin is strong on that topic and she had been well known in conservative circles for her lawsuits against the Feds regarding energy)

She is a woman (slightly offsets historic value of the first black president to have a woman VP on the other ticket; and possibly pick up some PUMA votes)

She will make a great Alaskan senator one day...

There is one thing we need fear even more.

Since she lives so close to Russia there is a chance she might become the Russian Premier.

The answer for all of us is to proceed with George's manned mission to Mars, but with a very small modification.

EDIT:
Are you all paying attention here? With the election and all we are clearly down two more levels in this onion.

"where do we go from here?"

I listened to part of a very encouraging interview on the radio today. An Obama staffer was comparing her experience in this campaign with 4 years ago and other campaigns. She stated that there was a surprising level of cooperation and constructive problem solving at all levels and that the tone was established from the top. She said that there was a remarkably lower amount of infighting and jockeying for position among staffers and workers than what she experienced in past campaigns. She felt it saved her about 5 hours a day of work because she had to deal with such a small amount of personnel frictions.

Obama's people skills and community organizing skills may turn out to be a huge advantage in the coming years.

"I wish I had not started this thread"

This thread and all the others like it, where incessant bickering and arguing seems to accomplish nothing, are perfect examples of the challenges that a democracy must overcome. When diverse people talk with each other and try to coordinate with each other, it seems inevitable that differences will arise.

How do we deal with what seem to be intractable differences? Do we abandon the discussion, leaving it to the blowhards? Do we take up weapons and try to kill our opponents before they kill us? Do we let our opponents have their way? Do we shout them down? Do we coerce or torture people till they agree with us and do what we want?

How do we make decisions that benefit the country overall when there are such huge differences in what people think is best for the country? I would argue that there are more rational and scientific ways that we could use to make decisions and to measure whether those decisions accomplish what we intended. Others might argue that humans are incapable of deciding on their own what is best for themselves and must submit themselves to higher powers.

Yet those same people who believe that a higher power alone can solve our problems are often very rational and effective in their daily actions and decision making. If you are willing to ignore or interpret different ways of using the same terms and different ways of stating the same meanings, it seems pretty easy to get along and cooperate with a wide range of people with very interesting backgrounds and divergent beliefs.

I just listened to Tom Brokaw interviewing someone from Obama's campaign who had also worked on Hillary's and someone else's. Said the same thing. He had never seen a campaign that worked that smoothly.

Sis, is there, anywhere, an example of her making it all the way through a legitimate sentence? How about a cogent thought? may have missed something.

Only a slight exageration, on one of those.
