I will miss Ouch!'s magic ability to make someone feel loved and respected by making fun of them. His jokes were like glue that held us together.

just got back from Yosemite Valley, left yesterday evening, climbing with Zander.

Sad news, that OUCH! has died. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and was the best of us all in making sure we didn't take ourselves, or this place too seriously. I am glad to hear that he was pleased to find us, we are also glad that he did as it certainly made the place unique.

He cannot be replaced here.

My thoughts go out to OUCH!'s family and friends, he must have been an incredible person to have known, and to have had as a father and husband.

Wow, I don't know what to say. My eyes are all teared up. This is so sad.

OUCH! was such an importent member of this e-family. He will be greatly missed. The TacoStand will be less without him. But we will each be more because of him.

Thanks you for everything, OUCH!

Gosh Allie,

I'm so very sorry to hear about you Dad's passing. It too came as a surprise to me because he always came across as very much alive, youthful, present and vibrant (though I knew he was on the older end of the SuperTaco age scale). That's a testament to the vitality of his spirit... our bodies eventually wear our, but our spirits really never age. Boy, was Ouch! a testament to that!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories of him. Especially the lesson that "stuff is just stuff." It is the immaterial things that provide the best and most lasting legacy and I can see how he really enjoyed sharing them with you, your family and us.

In addition to the gift of his humor, what an inspiration as a father he is. His example is something to aspire to.

Blessings and Peace to you and yours.

Eric O'Rafferty

P.S. This place just ain't gonna be the same without his cartoons. But I have a feeling his spirit is going to inspire someone in a similar vein someday!

I am saddened at this news. He will be missed. I too enjoyed his cartoons and sence of humor. Just another reminder to tell the ones you care about, that you love them; now!
Peace to family and friends.

I'm late to this thread because I was out taking joy from the sun and wind and mountains -- things your father loved too.

He'll sure be missed around here, and I join everyone else in offering my sympathy to you and the rest of his family.

I hope this picture works that I am trying to put here. First one I am trying myself. : )

My dad has been doing these cartoons for a long time with all of us as on the receiving end! Thank you for expanding his audience of targets! haha! This is his back yard and my 2 daughters and his other grandaughter.

Weren't slip & slides great?

Thank you all. I see why he spent so much time with you...

Apologies for not posting more but I am trying to get all of the pictures from his computer and get them to Nature as he is going to get them on a website...

Dad obviously had political views that were very...strong...shall we say? hehe. I am going to miss his rantings during this election. He really only wanted the best for the hard working little guy. No matter anyone elses opionion or how fired up he would get it all came down to that. He was more part of the humanitarian party than any other really...he just wanted that one to always stay in existence.

Never known a man to care about other human beings as much as he did. Some say they do..but he went out of his way to act on it and never speak of it at all. Now that is a man...

...and that man was my dad.

Ok...so I lied a bit. I get on here and I see what you write and I sooo wish he could see it and then I start crying because I wish it so much. You were not just his friends...you were his best friends...because he had not physically left the house for several years other than going to the doctor a few times. You kept him feeling young and involved and cared for and you took him outside of the walls of this house every day. Thank you.

We are driving back to the Seattle area in a bit and I am forever grateful for this weekend spent with you. It has helped us all during this time and my mom is so pleased that his work will be on a website and he will be remembered by so many. I hope to be a frequent visitor at the campfire...

I don't know about the rest of you - but Charming Dawn and I have been sad-sacking around all weekend since finding out about the passing of Ouch!.

What amazes both of us is the real feeling that we somehow have lost a friend - even though neither knew the man other than through his posts on SuperTopo.

Funny how a "virtual" world comprised of 1 and 0's can feel just as real as the analog world.

I'm gonna miss him!

When I told my wife she said'"I wondered why you hadn't called me in to see one of his cartoons in a while".

She'll miss him too.
