Enough gorgeous Fall beauty already---time for something ugly. Me belaying Rich Perch on the Saturday of the reunion. Not that you can tell, but the climb is Cherokee, 5.9, in the Near Trapps. Photo by Sue Rogers.

Dick, The reunion "Dinner" was a deal. Gunks burger (of course) $18 tip included. Cash bar. Even with the current economic scene, even the working folks could afford some quality time with old friends.

It was so great getting to know you original Gunkies. Such great people, so much respect.
Here are a few of my first experiences at one of THE finest areas on the planet.
The Carriage Road along the Uberfall. Approaches don't get any easier.
My first routes; Laurel and Rhododendron. Great easy warmups.
And Laurel and Hardy (Verm gripped on point and Steve G).
Arrow, another classic.
Verm on Doubleissima. Can't wait to do Directissima with the High E exit!
Steve on Birdland.

Fun beyond comprehension! The classic Yellow Ridge at Near Trapps.
And Roseland, what a pumper! Was so psyched to do this with no falls. The 5.9s are so solid here. Real 5.9, with a season's worth of shoe grease on every tiny foothold on the roof traverse. Al Rubin, TRing the 5.0 to the right, soon caught up and under his watchful eye, I was able to focus on the strenuous traversing finish to the anchor. Yeehaw!

Hi Mimi,
Although Al is getting old, he can climb a lot harder than 5.0.
He's on a 5.10. I know it was only a typo. :)
It was nice to meet you and Steve.

Mimi, Thanks so much for coming to the Reunion this year. You and Steve both appreciate the Gunks as a place, the climbing history and the great multi-generational community. Thank you. It was great just now to see your pictures of the Uberfall and Verm and Steve on some of the finest Gunks classics. I wish we climbed a couple days with you guys. For me hanging out in the woods with friends is the best time of all. Please keep up the great work you and Steve do. I look forward to seeing you even before 2010. Laura is keen to go to Seattle. You're so very welcome, Geno. We are looking forward to returning to the Gunks as soon as possible.
Holy crap! 5.0! LOL! Yes, that is certainly a typo. Al can still cruise solid 5.10, make no mistake. Call me a Shitface for that one. LOL! It's 10c.

Hey, I've undoubtedly TRed 5.0s in the past and surely will do so in the future as decrepitude progresses, but "old" Dave, isn't there something about kettles and pots and what they shouldn't call each other !!!!!

I have been thinking a lot about this gathering lately and really hope that another one is in the works for next year. Mimi, the Verm and I had so much fun that we would like to be the first to sign up for 2010! DR has never been there and is also psyched to check it out.

brings back many great memories of weekends climbing there and skiing Hunter and Windham and ice climbing in the nearby gorges
does anyone have old pictures of Gary Hemming, John Hudson, Bill Putnam, or Art Gran?

Next time hopefully jstan can make it - even if he has to be sent by parcel post, to reduce the environmental impact of the trip. He probably wouldn't fall for stories about the Gunks needing a FaceLift, though.

One of CSX's current advertisements claims they use one gallon of fuel to move one ton a distance of 500 miles. If true, by hopping freights I could travel coast to coast round trip on 0.9 gallons.
This is getting there.
