This seems a good time to again ask some important and relevant questions. Such as: What do you think of the candidates' and parties' positions on the environment? The economy? Health care? The economy? Foreign policy? The economy? Education? The economy? Erosion of civil liberties? Unemployment? Globalization? The economy? Taxation and the deficit? Cleaning up the messes left by Bush et al - who is now a conspicuously lame duck? The military-political-industrial complex? The economy?

skipt: Thanks. I've met a fair number of 'important' people, or at least people who are believed to be or who believe themselves to be important. Some of whom really were important. I'm afraid I tend not to be much awed by any of them. Some of the wisest and smartest and best people I've met are people known only to friends and family. The way in which people treat 'leaders', especially politicians, as messiahs is quite a mystery. Obama's biggest problem if he wins is unrealistic expectations.

Be worried Obama people; be very, very worried. From what I glean so far here and there, women across the US are are doing exactly what you say they won't do. We'll have to wait for the following polls to be sure, but it looks like McCain may have pulled off a real coup.

You really from boulder, Wyo Coward? Gateway to the winds, county 23, If I'm not mistaken. I lived in 5,17, and briefly in 23. of course the bush's are 6kyr adherents. The one that bugs me is Jimmy C, a creationist who was pen pals with Stephen Jay Gould.

I not sure her Christianity will be a deficit as you guys think. Probably the opposite. Recent polling showed that most (85%) Americans considered themselves religious and the overwhelming majority of those were...Christians.

"Be worried Obama people; be very, very worried."

I am not an Obama person, but I am very worried. Lets see, she is:
Anti-environment
Anti-abortion
Pro NRA
Against equal rights
currently under investigation for misusing her authority
has no experience, and
Believes in Creationism.

Wow. Surprising anyone would publicly support her. TGT and Woody, your party really knows how to pick em'.

So it's settled. We'll debate all this stuff at the FaceLift, and decide what's to be done. The wise, good and great of SuperTopia, coming together to solve the world's problems. No need to say anything more about it here. FatTrad has agreed to chair the discussion, and Matt will be vice-chair.

This, of course, after we've discussed Conquistadors of the Useless. Which does seem an apropos title at the moment...

We won't know for a few weeks how her bio will check out, once the OR folks really get going. But for the moment, this choice was phenomenally successful. Look at the top three posts on ST and countless other forums: This knocked the Dems and Obama off the news. That might be worth some points, especially in Colorado where each one may end up counting.

It should also help McCain to get more favorable emdia coverage, because the cameras love her, and that matters, too.

Interesting election now with so many wild cards.

it's a bit of a sucker move to get sucked into this argument, but...

do you know any women with 5 children?
do you know any women with a 4 month old infant?
do you know any women with a down syndrome child?

when exactly is she going to be doing all of her vice-president-ing?

what would the right wing "family values" types say if a democrat with young children was running for this office?

is her husband going to keep his union job in AK, and are the kids going to stay there,
or are they all moving to DC together?

even if you believe she can conduct a campaign under these circumstances, and that she can be a viable vice president under these circumstances, who among us really believes that she can be an effective President of the United States of America, with these added distractions and responsibilities?

scream phoney claims of mysoginistic world views at me all you want, but i say these are legit questions, and they will have to be asked, hockey-mom home-maker small town mayor to vice POTUS in 24 months?

...and throw in an infant and a little bit of unfortunate disability for good measure-

now tell me you'd have voted for her in the primary!

Palin has been a top executive of a state, leading and making desisions equally as serious as any other state. She went against both dems and republicans to clean up corruption. She said no thank you to the bridge to nowhere. Obama has zero executive experience. So we welcome that debate!

Sure she won't get any pro abortion extremists, but if you think no Hillary supporters will come over just check out the Hillary blogs, there are more than just a few high fives going on.

McCain has a chance he will die of a heart attack or other natural cause in the next four years. Can Palin make the hard choices and have enough time with 5 kids to be president.

This choice does put a lot of pressure on Hillary. She will ahve to be the one to question Palin's credentials. If she isn't willing to go out on that limb, it will be more difficult for the Biden-Obama team to do.

Matt, women are good at multi tasking and I bet she'll have lots of help available. I've known women, not even Mormons, who have had families that make 5 look lean. Some of these gals had kids that had medical problems.....it can be done.

Kids etc. aren't really a distraction, you just have to be organized, firm and loving....good diciplinarian.

lynne-
you miss the point entirely.
yes, the parenting can be done, but not the president-ing, not by someone who barely knows anyone in the town, who has to rely on karl rove and the GOP machinery to even get contact info of the players, much less know their various and complex personal agendas, and all of that cannot be accomplished whilst also being an active parent of small children, so either she will largely be away from them and her husband will manage on his own in AK, or her whole family will uproot, kids leaving friends and schools etc, and they will make the best of it in DC.

the pick was made only for election specific purposes (even more immediate concerns that november, if you ask me), and not for the assets this person brings to actually governing.

a 72 yr old w/ a hard on to bomb iran, and a mother of 5 from a small town who doesn't believe in science, and cannot correctly pronounce iran.

Matt, I see what you're saying. I mean, of course she didn't think twice about having the child with Down's Syndrome when she knew she could just find someone else to care for her child while she takes care of her political career. What a blue-ribbon mom!!

But she wouldn't be sympathetic to other women who are considering abortion. If SHE didn't, why should they?

The election might boil down to faith, then. The "faith" communities find representation under the McCain/Palin ticket and reason lies behind the Obama/Biden team. Maybe considering the number of religious nuts in this country, the McCain campaign thinks it has scored.

Well, I for one have Faith that Obama and Biden won't be railroaded this time by the Republican propaganda machine. They will expose how weak and irrational the Republican platform is.

So this is some of the damning evidence agin' her:

+ From a small town

+ Has 5 kids and a husband

+ Can't pronounce Iran

+ I don't really think you meant that she doesn't believe in science. I'm sure she knows the sciences ie chemistry, biology, physics are for real. : )
