After reading the entire thread on Tobin Sorensen, I thought about how just one thread like that can be better than an entire biography of the person, because through the lens of friends and family, you get a feel for an amazing life and a wonderfully inspired person, and what he contributed to climbing. These are the things that I found unique about this Forum. Some the threads are just really good.

Also, special thanks to Jim Herson for sharing his amazing journey of raising a climbing family. .........not to mention occasional posts from Golden Age icons such as Wayne Merry and John Gill.............

So thank you so much for hosting this site as long as you did. It is indeed unique on the worldwide web

wow, that is WONDERFULy said!

thank you for sharing all that...

Thank you, Chris and RJ, for hosting this forum. And thanks to all the posters who made participating in it so enjoyable to me. The ability to post may shortly disappear here, but the richness this forum gave me still lasts.

Want to thank Chris, RJ, Mike, Hardman and others for creating this place for all of us.

I didn't create anything; I like to think of myself as a garbage man - who occasionally took out the trash in an effort to improve the signal to noise ratio. Unfortunately a few very active charactors had a disproportionately negative effect on the vibe of the forum. It grew to be tedious and tiresome, and I reduced my participation in the forum drastically in recent years.

On the other hand, so much awesome and priceless stuff has been posted here since its inception. Archive or knott, I will always remember and treasure it.

I'm really sorry to hear about your medical issues and wish you the best, Riley.

Take care,

Thanks, Dave. I think I’m good now although there is a little bit of fear that I will bend the wrong way and it will return.
It’s been a very reflective week and grand adventure. And adding ST to the mix again has really rounded out this life changing experience. Very happy to be back here in the last weeks of ST chatting with you and so many others.
It’s easy to underestimate what a legend this place has been. The last 70 years or more of climbing has walked through ST and often their last words were left here.

When I came across this forum years ago I was really excited. I have really liked most of the content. Some of the in fighting was bullsh%t but other than that it was great.I am quite sad to see it go.

As a daily-lurker and occasional poster for going on 13 years, this is quite a bummer. Thankful that the forum text will be saved- it's such a shame that the pictures will be gone... I can think of so many threads with priceless photos...

Thank you for hosting the site, Chris. This really was a special thing, and it's been a privilege to be here and read it all.

Well, I am sorry to see ST go. The forum was a tremendous comfort to me after my husband, Jack Roberts, died. I have saved those posts. While I don't add much, I have enjoyed many posts, and getting to "know" some of the characters. Best to all, and thanks for the memories!

As was written somewhere by someone, this place was as much about a time as it was anything.

Mike: to me has been a community, Sure, we may have shared a time in climbing history; to me though, it will be the people that I'll remember.

Even those that gave me crap. Heehee!

I have paintings from neebster and Tami; photos from Jody and Roy. Memories of daze spent at El Jefe Gordo's ranch, months in Round Valley with Doug and his circle of friends that came and went.

Neebee's quilts and art are treasures.

Watching Dale Bard build his climbing wall and seeing him do endless laps on his crack machine with music from his bread truck mixing with the wind in the aspens.

At one time spent $1k to buy a signed Bird prototype hammer and sent it down the road. Where be it now?

Chris and RJ, thank you for your creation and contributions.

I have been a lurker for years, with an occasional post. ST is the first site I pull up for a read (and connection). Thank you to every person who has contributed to ST with thoughts, reports, rants, tributes, memorials, information, pictures, tears, and laughter. I am an educator and am continually amazed by the depth and breadth of our climbing community. We rock...literally.

Love to all and Licky...publish the book already.

The forum system was designed to provide freedom with no responsibility. Some rules that might change that balance and permit someone to commit their time to constructing and moderating a new system.:

1. Subscription charge of $50 per year per avatar. (paid by personal check)
2. If too few send in checks the checks received can all be torn up.
2. No photos at all
3. Both lurkers and posters must subscribe.
4. Maximum of one post per day.
5. Subscribers have access to existing ST archive
6. Rejection (with reason sent to email addy) for uncivil posts.
7. More than 10 rejections in a year causes poster to lose their year's subscription ( with no refund).

That a firm closure date has been set suggests the ST's purchaser has stepped forward and thus would be a participant.

Overwatch:
I chose a number to cut down on the posting fights involving no thought. If there is a limit people will tend to think out what they are doing.

Thanks for hosting the forum. Like many users, my use of the forum has diminished over the years. But it was great having a forum where you could listen in on conversations from climbers from the 60s onwards. There were so many great threads and trip reports on this site.
