Methinks the average climber drinks more than 22 gallons per year.
Three 12 ounce beers per day is 100 gallons per year.

We're in the process of sorting out moving back to Canada. Finding this brewery where we really didn't expect it may have just made the choice easier...

The roads from here extend 12 miles in one direction, 16 miles in the other. As the crow flies, it is only 60 miles from Squamish and 70 miles from Vancouver, but no matter where you start, you can't get here without taking two ferries.

But despite the isolation, the local brewery has 12 taps, and, aside from the usual "Pale Ale" and "Blonde", they're all unbelievably good. The brewer is Belgian, and the owners are serious about real beer. Saisons, farmhouse ales, wild yeasts...

Shitty little towns with good beer. It seems that at least half the small towns I have visited recently have their own brew pub. Most of them have really decent beer and a few of them really do a good job. The future looks bright.

When I first hit the local pub in Republic it was full of locals of all ages enjoying beer. I didn't really have much in common with most of these folks except we all enjoyed the beer. Home again.

Lately I've had:

Ballast Point Unfiltered Sculpin
Mikkeller SD Sensible Sweater
Mikkeller SD Stacks of Haze
Mikkeller SD Hazed and Amused
Sierra Nevada Tropical Torpedo
Alpine Exponential Hoppiness (2017)

You guys down with all those hazy IPAs?

Well, this ain't no shitty little town. Might be little, depending on your ideas of big and little. But it it isn't like the towns of the same size in the US -- definitely not shitty. And just two hours from town center are five granite domes the size of the Squamish Chief.

Sure!...."hazy" IPA's are stellar! F*k IPA west coast style (clear with a medium malt color). The best IPA's I've had were mainly east coast IPA's, that have a hazy hue. It really comes down to when you "crash" a brew after fermentation and the yeast that is used. Love me sum American Ale II yeast strains! And this term "hazy" is something that Left Coast brewers use so they aren't seen "mooching" east coast brewer techniques. ;) Ghost, you with me on that thought?

Sorry if you can only stomach the likss of Old Milwakee ;) No one is marketing a "beer race". Imagine if you were limited to top roping The Trough at Tahquitz.....ho-hum thoughtless 'rice' beer. Boring day on your end?

I don't have much truck with "West Coast" or "East Coast". Yeah, sure, there is a "West Coast IPA" style, but with thousands of breweries on the west coast, brewing everything you can think of, plus hundreds of things you could never imagine, and looking for marketing descriptors for each of them, it's become almost useless to try to define anything.

But, for what it's worth, there's a place for both of what Mooch calls West and East Coast style IPAs. Depends on all kinds of things -- is it hot? cold? what food (if any) are you eating with the beer? is it late in the evening with a fire blazing? etc etc etc.

And as to haze, yeah, you can crash it out. But time does a pretty good job, too. Of course, there's haze, and then there's haze.
