JEFF LOWE UPDATE: Dear Tacoites last night Jeff made it very clear he is NOT ready to leave us just yet. He was adamant when he chose a challenging route: to be sedated and have a breathing tube put in and have a ventilator breathe for him. He was headed for respiratory failure, so this seemed the best option for now. Jeff can hear us, he is stable, in and out of consciousness and able to communicate with fingers and nods. His lungs sound more clear this morning and he is resting well. Our vision remains that Jeff come home and sit on the deck with his beloved cats and family and friends so he can leave this world on his own terms. Thankfully Jeff and I were with family, friends and Sulma while we talked with doctors and Jeff made this difficult decision. My deepest gratitude to Melody and Lillija Contos for their Reiki love, Sulma and Catharine Fahey for their loving care of Jeff and Phil Broscovak who kept a vigil on Jeff all through last night. To everyone, your love, prayers and healing thoughts and vibes are still needed, do make a difference and are greatly appreciated on this amazing journey. We love you all so very much.

Oops, Connie, your post came up just as I was typing mine. You and Jeff are both such solid, brave people. I admire you both more all the time. A hard road, but you walk it with such dignity.
I still haven't seen Metanoia, and I feel left out!!
Did it play in the Sacramento area anyplace?

Hey Survival, the movie has not come to Sacramento yet. We would love to do a screening there, so maybe you can help us do that. Send me a message....

Sending out positive vibes to one of my heroes, and hoping that Jeff will get back to that sunny deck, his family and cats.
I'll also add here for reference that Connie's description of Phil being there for Jeff is the Philo that I know. . respect to Phil for that.

OK, Locker, I hadn't posted anything because I didn't think Jeff would
read this.
Jeff, you may not but I vividly recall our meeting in Sheldon's hanger
in Talkeetna. I was there with Kayleen shepherding Rooskies. It was a
real honor and a pleasure chatting with you. You were most gracious! ;-)
God bless you.

I remember being so wowed, meeting such an icon in the history of climbing, when Jeff was at the SushiFest in Snow "We can here you on the petrified dunes" Canyon. And even more wowed to talk to him and realize he was a very nice and kind person.
Keeping you in my thoughts, Jello and Connie.

Scott Baxter's father passed in the midst of the Grand Canyon Granitica Festival last weekend and I wrote this to Scott this morning while assuring him that he hadn't let me down in the least by going to his father's bedside.
It is an honor to be present when members of your family or close friends move out of this plane of existence and I have come to understand that most of my real regrets in life have come from choosing not to provide care and compassionate company for loved ones who are ill and suffering or approaching death from whatever cause.
I have spent a lot of time around Jeff Lowe and his partner Connie Self in recent years helping them with their film project and fund raising to manage their lives moving forward. Though it can be very emotionally draining bearing witness to Jeff's trials and tribulations, I see very clearly the deeper forces at play in our interactions that enable both of us to gain the kind of insight and wisdom that we both need as old souls and keep despair at bay. It ain't easy but there is purpose and inspiration in his situation and the way he is managing it with such magnificent courage and spirit.
Jeff will have it his way to the end of the line and that is beyond admirable. A true warrior's dharma. Venture on, Cloudwalker...Our love will carry you across the River as and when you need it.

Jeff, I met you back in 2003. You were giving a slideshow at REI. Shortly after I purchased your Clean Walls video, which you autographed.
You've been one of the good guys.
Hoping for the best.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Jeff. I only was amazed from afar.
In the days before the internet we had to wait anxiously for the next Mountain Magazine, Off Belay or Alpine Journal to come out to see what our heroes were up to. Even with the limited information I got, Jeff came across as a humble bad ass.
Connie, did you get my email?

Words by Voytek Kurtyka that applies well to Jello's climbing of Metanoia:
Mountaineering is a complex and unique way of life, interweaving elements of sport, art and mysticism. Success or failure depends on the ebb and flow of immense inspiration. Detecting a single rule governing this energy is difficult – it arises and vanishes like the urge to dance and remains as mysterious as the phenomenon of life itself.
