The Obama administration deported a record 438,421 unauthorized immigrants in fiscal year 2013, continuing a streak of stepped up enforcement that has resulted in more than 2 million deportations since Obama took office, newly released Department of Homeland Security data show.

Some immigrant advocates have dubbed Obama the “deporter in chief” over the fact that his administration has deported about as many immigrants in five years as the George W. Bush administration deported in eight years.

Norton, you are correct. Bush & congress did little about the issue, this president has been much better despite dealing with a do-nothing congress that only kicks the can down the road. Trump is exploiting the issue and the Repub base eats it up, despite the facts you mention. There is never going to be a 2,000-mile Great Wall of China-style wall on the border.

Hmmmm....who is likely to be the better, objective source of facts.....

Breitbart....or Pew Research?

Gosh, the choice is sooooo hard.

Unless you are a brainless RepubDroid- then it's quite easy.

New World, see the statement from Republican candidate, Marco Rubio. It is not just Democrats supporting a path to citizenship (or amnesty as your side calls it). Rubio knows there is no path to the White House without getting a better percentage of the Hispanic vote than his party has gotten in the past.

Marco Rubio dismissed Donald Trump’s immigration plan today as not feasible, and said he disagreed with the billionaire about ending birthright citizenship.

“I’m open to doing things that prevent people who deliberately come to the U.S. for the purposes of taking advantage of the 14th Amendment, but I’m not in favor of repealing it,” Rubio told reporters at the Iowa State Fair Tuesday morning. “I haven’t read his plans, I’ve only read press accounts on some of them. But obviously there’s some ideas that have merit, but the majority of it is really not a workable plan that could ever pass Congress.”…

“We have 12 or 13 million human beings that have been here for a long time. And there is really no, there’s not really a realistic way of rounding up and deporting 12 or 13 million people and our nation wouldn’t want to do that anyway,” Rubio said.

My guess is that Rubio will be left standing after Trump implodes, as the nominee or the VP nominee.

Great Wall of China? More like the Berlin Wall if you really want to keep people out. And why limit it to the southern border?

The populist gripes about illegal entry and residence obscure more complicated facts. Almost every illegal entrant of which I am aware came here to work, not to mooch. Unfortunately, though, some have developed their own entitlement mentality. My wife, a nurse, encounters it in demands for extra services, the expectation and demand for translators (and not just into Spanish) at no charge to the patient, etc.

Sad to say, I even see it in communities of recent Armenian immigrants. My father's generation expected that they would need to learn to communicate in English. That's probably why he spoke perfect English and perfect Armenian. Then again, his generation - and that of his parents (my father was born in Syracuse, NY in 1901, my grandparents were born in Turkish Armenia in the 1860's) - knew they weren't going back. That knowledge doubtless accelerated their facility with the English language and their desire to assimilate while maintaining what they saw as their desirable distinctives.

In any case, until I see an anti-illegal-immigrant populist explain how he or she will control our borders, remove those here illegally, and pay for all of that, I see no reason to take their rants any more seriously than I do those of any other populist demagogue. My patience with those who blame our problems exclusively on the villains-du-jour diminishes daily.

"Women in Iowa love Mr. Trump because they love a real man. And Mr. Trump is showing the things that women love. We love strength. We love a Mr. Clean. There are so many things that so many women are loving in Mr. Trump. We don't want a wimp running our country, and Mr. Trump is the furthest thing from a wimp. So it is very true, women are engulfing him and supporting him and are 100% behind him. People are excited about Mr. Trump becoming the next president." -Tana Goertz, CNN to Wolf

No more "there" there than we haven't heard already.

The concept of making really good negotiators ambassadors instead of contributors and political dynasty children in need of a job was interesting though.

This shift in emphasis by Trump to the art of negotiating / the art of deal making and its importance by tried and true experts instead of bumblies should get more attention.

Poor Jeb! He's forever saddled now I think with this "low energy" tag. Not good.

Here it is Trump lovers, your reasons for ditching him immediately without a second to lose...

1) "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive." -Trump tweet

http://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/265895292191248385

(2) When it comes to books in the world o "nothing beats the Bible." No, not even his second favorite book which he wrote himself, The Art of the Deal. -town pep rally, mobile alabama

That is some wild and crazy sh#t right there.

If anyone needs to be told WHY not to vote for Trump, he/she should be declared incompetent and have a third part appointed to look over their affairs.
