I have not had a real ski job in about 5 years but @ that time it seemed like telle was going main stream as the latest cool extreem sport. Lift service @ Okemo and killington on Telle gear = extra cool Extreeeme :)

And they think they are wicked cool for lifting their heel...
Me on a bulletproof Moosalake last spring.. You can not really tell but the baskets are ductape specials, boots were 2nd hand end of season rentals in about 2000, the skies are a 2003 all mtn K2 bought on ebay unmounted in the plastic for $118 and mounted in 2006. I had a full time winter ski job from 97 to 2009 and kind of sort of part time gig since then so the boots have been brutalized and the skies just broken in a bit..

I would never argue skiing with a guy named Urmas, but about 90% of the tele skiers I have known here in Truckee over the last 20 years have switched to AT, Dynafit, specifically. Most would revert to an alpine turn when the going got rough anyway. And ice, wow, ice...not the place for a free heel, IMHO.

It all gets lost in the hilarity of skiing.

Most of the people I skied with could turn in one direction easier than they could the other. I could to the left easier than I could to the right. I used to telemark with someone who seemingly could turn in either direction with ease. I mentioned this to him one day, and he must have thought about it too much. His turns that day weren't pretty. :-)

I wouldn't mind putting a little tele or some more advanced turns in my quiver. Been reading the books but need to translate that into muscle memory. Where's a good place to get a lesson?

QITNL, one of the best tele instructors on the planet is posting on this thread. Take some lessons with Urmas - http://skiwithurmas.com/

Hi There it's me lurking over here! I'm grateful to Kunlun Shan for the recommendation! I naturally will defend telemark skiing to the death, as I have worked to grow the sport and show people how to have more fun doing it for over 20 years. I also, believe it or not, have friends - my wife even - who AT ski now. That's cool, but Telemark skiing is not going away. The numbers have probably been pared down to the core people who genuinely enjoy it. The people who had hoped to enhance their prestige by doing it have left. Good riddance!

Urmas, I was fortunate enough to attend the Bear Valley Tele Fest in 2006, when it was 4 days long - they added Thursday for skiing with the PSIA Nordic Demo Team; Urmas, Craig Panarisi and Scott McGee.

My skiing improved 100% in those few days. Lots of exercises to break down a tele turn, build and improve fundamentals. I've been tele skiing since the early '80's, have a strong alpine ski background, and cannot recommend enough, instruction at this level. Urmas will get you doing the right thing, in good time.

My ski came off on a steep traverse over a 400' cliff when I heard my friend, Hansi, ask

"What did the tele skier say when he ran out of weed?"

"What?"

"These bindings suck."

Timing is everything.

I'm a lifer on hippy sticks but I generally recommend others against it.

Ha!

Thanks, Wilbeer, for a good thread.
Our snow so far has been ephemeral as usual and I finally replaced my gear this year, so I appreciate any stoke while patiently waiting...

Ephemeral indeed perswig.

We have had close to 100 inches of snow in WNY this fall.

I do not think it lasted on the ground a week.

After lots of cycling,a good bit of climbing and some paddling, this looks like a powder day.
So ,what to do?Get out the Marquette BC skis.[Click to View YouTube Video]
