For the purposes of participation in this Forum, the difference is largely semantic, but the upshot is the same. Ron's pathologic posting behavior far predates our current spat...while he has every right to have his opinions, the sheer number of posts containing his thinly-veiled racist, homophobic, misogynistic, &/or hateful comments is overwhelming. We've sometimes compared Ron & Lois in their posting behaviors...at least Lois's posts didn't contain the kind of hate that Ron regularly spews.
To my eye, Ron has been hounding & harassing a great number of users here for years via his constant negative blather. My personal targeting of this bullshit really only ramped up around the time he reported Hedge, and it has pretty much only focussed on Ron.

You seem holier than thou about it as well, about your right to be an anonymous as#@&%e & follow Ron A around poking him like a retarded kid pokes a beehive with a stick, but because you are retarded the stings don't really hurt, they kind of feel good so you keep doing it. Then lots of other people tell you that it isn't cool to poke the hive, but because you are a retarded little kid you just keep doing it.
Add Ron's other "fan boi" Zach H bombs to the mix & the three of you form a nice little thread wrecking triangle of hate that the rest of us get to deal with. You might think its funny or that other people think you are cool but really it's lame & pathetic. All 3 of you have really good stuff you could be posting about climbing or otherwise, but instead u guys choose to wallow in the BS & keep taking lame pot shots & low blows. Dragging as many others into the fray as possible. Ruining many threads, climbing & otherwise. It's easy to blame Ron but he is instigated by one of you two 90% of the time. Really all 3 of you need to leave each other alone.
The best part is that you have rationalized it so you think it's all his fault for banning of hedge(what a joke, hedge committed virtual suicide), pathological posting? & a really good one u like to moan about is threatening you.

So what should be done about harassing, John M? Well, that depends on a consistent definition of the word, for starters. Most of the kind of harassment that Ron has created here at ST should be dealt with by the users, consistently pushing back against his bullsh#t, and if he doesn't respond, then it gets escalated to another level. For the most part, I've simply been pushing back against Ron's bullsh#t.
When it goes beyond pathologic posting, and a participant actively seeks personal information from various internet sources, and then posts it publicly with vindictive intent...that is an entirely different level of 'harassment'.

Yeah...you're right about that, Ryan. I'd like to apologize to all other users of this Forum who have been impacted by my role in this shitshow. Ron's posting behavior may be over the line, but it was my choice to respond to it the way that I have, and for all other users, it has only doubled the negativity that Ron projects.

Yes, ST has become a place for put downs, endless attacks, and of elitism. Especially elitism... It's horrifying how some people think they are special, and have the right to attack others because of past accomplishments when in reality... They are just ugly people. ST because of this has lost it's humor, the joy and the fun of sharing lives, sharing the joy of climbing, sharing different view points, the wonders of travel, etc. Even friendships are contests or who is the "real" friend, who cared for that person most. Instead of being something to bond, to join forces in remembering their friends, it becomes another contest of egos. It is so very confusing.
I've been here less because of the negativity and I am stepping away. Instead I want to enjoy things as they are, love and care for people without wondering about who said what, the alternative motives, random illogical slights, the constant battle of egos that really don't make sense. I don't care if someone doesn't share my view point. I am not the center of the world and therefore I don't see how it matters or how my viewpoint is a threat. That's stupid. Instead I want to go climbing because I love climbing, I don't need to justify my dedication, my skills or whatever. I just want to exist in that moment. I want to help people because I can, support those in the community because... Hey, doing good stuff feels good, it's contagious and fun. I don't need to be special, or anything... I just want people kind enough to share a rope without getting others killed, enjoy this world because tomorrow... Yeah, we are all going to be dead so might as well enjoy NOW. Seriously all the other b.s... It is simply Stupid.

This is nothing new. I have a list of physical threats from stupid taco users... the usual suspects... the gun nuts who complain about violent immigrants... the conservatives who insist liberals are taking away their liberties... the uneducated who KNOW they have all the answers... all willing and eager to use violence to impose their will.
Throwing (un)witty insults back and forth is harmless fun. Throwing threats of physical violence back and forth is the pathetic macho bullsh#t of immature meat heads... not to mention illegal. Posting nude pics gets you banned... threats of violence... eh, as long as we aren't "forced" to see nudity it is all fine and good.

Yes, I do. Don't even doubt it. Not each post and not always.
But the collected mass of my posts shows pretty much what kind of person I am and what I stand for. How it's received I can't decide, it's up to the reader.
The great reward of posting on the Taco is people. Friends. Meet in real life friends. People whose worth crossing the Atlantic and a continent to meet up with.
:-) So, you can keep your cynical attitude about internet communities. Don't want it. I have purposefully decided to not be cynical, because it's a loser's game.
