Mike! You've got just about the best thread going here. Thanks for the updates! What panniers are you running there?

Shoot me a pm if you want to hit anything in the High Sierra again when you get back. And make sure to find some of the undeveloped termas along the carretera austral...

Ed: Also, not sure how often you make time for side trips/hikes, but the hanging glacier at Quelat is well worth it... Beautiful ice cascading from a cliff ensconced is dense, cold rainforest... I'd never seen anything like it.

Thank you for the update!

Lago General Carrera is a long way to go in that time frame. Over 400 miles in a straight line and there is no straight line.......

Have fun and enjoy the scenery. I've been on the roads you are on now and they are a treat! Wash board gravel and the wind will be the best part..

Thanks all for the encouagement. Im happily surprised.
Im riding on a spongy wonder no-nose saddle now. Ive got prostrate problems and this definately helps. My panniers are Ortlieb. Tubus rear rack and Old Man Mountain front. Schwalbe marathon plus tour 2" tires. Three flats so far so Im happy. Did I mention lots of rain? Ive seen more virgin rock in the last two days then all of Yosemite valley. For those who havent been here - this section of Patagonia really reminds me of the North Cascades.

Jim Donini, are you near route 7, or further to the east?

RM...we arrived in Coyhaique today, going to the house tomorrow. We are on the SW shore of Lago General Carrera just East of Puerto Guadal. We are on highway 265 which goes East from 7 to Chile Chico. Our front gate is on the right just after the 15km marker. Truly beautiful because you can look back at the mountains.....better view of San Valentin than anywhere on 7 and just 15 km diversion.
If you get this far before we leave a hot shower, good food and maybe some kayaking, fishing and climbing awaits you.
The turn is about 260kms South of Coyhaique. Your last photo looks like a place about 300kms North of Coyhaique.

Rocker Mike,
Go to Donini's place. Then we can have a SuperTopo gathering down under. Virtual for most of us.

Just an update... Im in Coyhaique now (been here a week), but have to stay here until the 20th in order to get my next anti-Rabies shot. Long story there.... ha
Anyway, maybe a week from here to your place once I get on the road again. If you are still around I,ll knock on your door somewhere around the 26th or 27th of Feb.

Looking forward to meeting you....
