Just checking, I was pretty close, predicted May 15, but the Tioga Pass opened today, May 12. Not to bad for a greenhorn.....:D
Edit: Cragman, yeah, thanks for the pic and the post!

From the amount of snow, or actually lack of snow, the pass should have been open a while ago. Olmstead was bare, bone dry, nothing. What gives ?

QITNL so that was your snow shoe track coming down from ragged peak? When did you go Friday? I went up Saturday to Young lakes to attempt Conness but like you said the conditions were tough and made it hard to find the trail. A lot more snow than I thought and I was glad to have snow shoes. Nice pictures.

QITNL, I have limited room in my van to bring what I will use for the next 4 months. Should I bring my snowshoes and gaiters? Thanks for all you info, Dude. :D Cheers, L.

QITNL,
Once we made it to young lake we looked at Conness and thought it might be scary with the snow right near the summit. It seems like both of us made a good decision to not go to the top. I hope no one follows our path because we lost the trail several times when you break out of the trees. Such a nice weekend up there. Thanks for the pictures.

QITNL, Thanks for the beta. :D Today was last day at work. Tomorrow errands and goodbyes and then pack and I'm off to Adventure Land. So much more prepared this year. Jazzed to be hitting the water, rock and trails. lynne

What gives ?
"Depends. Who did you vote for in 2004 and 2008?"
Really ?? I'm the guy who works and pays taxes, lots of them. I'm not sucking it up in my van behind the Mobil 4 months and the 8 lounging in the desert claiming to minimize my carbon footprint. Bums don't pay taxes.

rwedgee, I have paid mega taxes in my life. Then ran into the Perfect Storm of Life and was pulled into a quiet harbor to rethink it all.
I saw life one way when I was a workaholic pulling down the bucks. The Perfect Storm put me a place to think, ponder and reconsider.
Bottom line to me: Don't judge. Live how you choose but don't judge those that don't make your same life decisions.
And khanom, all of us think differently. You don't know who he voted for. And frankly, no matter who you vote for (there could be some exceptions we don't know about)they aren't going to carry out the platform(s) you voted them in for. This applies to pretty much all parties. Just my observations.
I'll probably be sorry I posted such a dogmatic one. Every once in a while I get a "wild hair". :D
Edit: But you are both (hopefully) my SuperTopo Friends.

I could use some distractions and the images of the High Country would be pretty good ones.
...thought only broken bone hurts, but apparently the pains from the surgery removing those metals out of your body hurt almost just as much... Ok that might be a bit exaggerating, but ouch no less. @_@ >_<

Yes more pics please! Am heading up there Friday. So excited. Never miss an opening weekend but it was Mother's Day so I'm coming up there now.
And no one rag on Lynne. She's living the friggin dream. Working in Tuolumne 4 months a year then working at a climbing shop down south the next 8 months. She's got life dialed as far as I'm concerned. And one hell of an awesome lady who I'm so stoked to see this weekend.
