We HAVE fed a lot of our brave young to issues like OIL though.. Someone Else's oil at that.
It may be someone else's oil Ron but its sold in U.S. dollars and that's what they are fighting for. Look at Iraq, they tried to sell their oil in euros and you guys took out Saddam. Egypt was trying to establish an African currency to replace the American dollar and look how that worked out... Libya was also trying to buck the trend, and now Iran is trying to follow suit..
The problem is oil. It's the only thing holding up your dollar. You guys don't have enough gold to back up all the paper... That all changed with Nixon.. So you have to press your foreign policy or the dollar will fail and you guys will be the next Mexico with us following suit I'm sure shortly after.
DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!!!!!!

If you want to read IMHO the best book about both Nam and the 'secret' air
war over Laos then here it is:
Flying Through Midnight by John Halliday
It is excellently written and INTENSE!

Big Mike-
Bravo, the comment of the United States becoming the "next Mexico." It isn't "if" any longer, but more like "when." All this election will do is kick the can down the road a year or 2. Regardless of who wins, a country with 23 million unemployed (not counting those seriously UNDERemployed, or who have simply given up looking), and 47 million receiving Food Stamps, is not in good shape to weather another massive depression (NOT recession!). We are currently devaluing our currency at a rate of $40 Billion a month through "Quantitative Easing." Know what? The banks are awash in a sea of money they cannot lend, because there are NO TAKERS!
At least the OP had a good reason to show the people of our country there are some who have honor, dignity, integrity, and a belief in our people (NOT the Government).

John, I believe that it is the policy to evacuate the guards during dangerous situations, such as lightning.
That does not mean that they leave the area. All the reports that I've read say that they will remain "on site", which I don't interpret to mean that they will be exposed to the storm.

Vietnam was messed up for sure. I was taught by an old Commander from Vietnam and... I had another teacher at CSUN that was a strategist taught at West Point. They both liked to bring up the fact that every battle the U.S. fought in Vietnam, we won.
Winning is not just about being stronger and that is something people forget. We must have a proper definition, a goal in order to win. Just winning battles, effectively killing people isn't it.

Yes Ken, I finally found something that explained that. Its funny to me how misunderstood my objection was. As though I was calling them cowards. Which I never did nor would. I have too many friends who served in the military and the majority of the men in my family served and I have too much respect for their service to call them cowards. What I don't have respect for is some of the chickenshit things that happen because of either politics, egos, or just plain ol evil. I came of age at the end of the Vietnam war. It was not a pretty time.
....
I thought lostinshanghai was going to post some more. what happened to him? Didn't he serve in Vietnam in the 101st Airborne? I was looking forward to his post.

But there was some f*#ked up sh#t done in Nam.
Way worse than name calling.
Inhuman stuff.
Yep No doubt about it and true of pretty much ALL war. Iraq and Afghanistan included.
War is the opposite of all that the civilized world holds dear. War IS HELL is an old saying but I think it is as literally true as could be.
I feel it is we civilians that have failed our duty to ensure it is not embarked on most of the times it has been.
While individual soldier have done many terrible things in war. That is not the case for most. I'm not blind but I do feel that the average Service member deserves my respect. "they were just doing their job" dosn't cut it for me. They were not working at Micky Ds. They volunteered to risk their lives in WAR.
Those who were enslaved by their government via the draft have my respect too.

Yes we need proper goals and we need ones that can actually be accomplished. They also have to be worth the terrible price of War.
It does not seem often that all of those parameters are fulfilled when our nation goes to war.
The last time I can recall it happening was the First Gulf War (arguably). Before that WWII

Since we're going down the Vietnam road, a fantastic book on how we got into that mess(Johnson and McNamara) is:
Dereliction of Duty by H.R. McMaster

You can't just blame the politicians.
The review of the book:
For years the popular myth surrounding the Vietnam War was that the Joint Chiefs of Staff knew what it would take to win but were consistently thwarted or ignored by the politicians in power. Now H. R. McMaster shatters this and other misconceptions about the military and Vietnam in Dereliction of Duty.

The review of the book:
The review doesn't do justice...while the book does assign partial blame to the JCS for basically not standing up a little better to the politicians, it places the bulk of the blame squarely in the hands of Johnson and McNamara.

Chief,
“That was your choice.
“But being the typical whatever, you do not realize the price that has been paid so you may have the freedom to do so, unrestricted and without imposition.”
“Price that has been paid so you may have the freedom to do so”
We spend two days out of 365 to honour freedom, the Fourth of July is a celebration. Those two days are all forgotten the next day where we all get back forget what freedom is and get back to lies, cheating, hate and countless name calling so whoever [puppets with strings attached] is elected gets to be the one that makes sure we have that freedom.
And define freedom for me: is it right for banks to steal and then get bailed out so they can steal again?
I am way above your pay scale and knowledge; not only do I wright papers but contribute ideas to save your ass and even people that have the right to burn the Koran and that same preacher that endorses the Muslim movie here in our “Freedom of Expression” that cause more harm and losses more lives overseas from that expression.
I am involved in Crisis Management as well as a few other solutions dealing with risk.
I guess you believe we all have the right under that Freedom to shoot, rape, steal, murder at will in schools and fast food places. Guess it brings or creates character for our country.
Here in my county we have people pretend they are Democrats and take Obama shaped cardboard likeness and posters from the Democratic party headquarters and then go up the hills to use as target practice, some take home and throw darts at him.
2013: you think your freedoms will be the same: Government surveillance, face recognition, even credit cards are being talk about to see what you buy, just to name a few. You think our government has the rights, I guess so under your definition of Freedom. Our given rights? Romney will be handed over the same problems Obama needed to do that Bush put in order. If Romney gets in.
And as for a man without a country I have seen and learned a lot about what we do and understand [40 years and counting] why we are hated, when I travel to other countries as a businessman, I know and understand their cultures and language something we do not do here. WE the USA argue, scream, and some get mad to even get into fights when we talk about politics here. When I am half away around the world; we discuss and do not argue since I agree with what some say about our country and its faults and some but not all undemocratic ideas.
We can’t even govern ourselves here and we are trying to bring/teach democracy to other countries?
I do not believe guns are the answer it is in diplomatic solutions.
I see, hear and it is not the country that I once knew there is division that will eventually destroy us; luckily back east people came together not like Bush’s Hurricane but not over yet.
When it comes who will be elected that is where the problems will begin.
Canada is civilized country: When I used to travel many years back when you were in a country where OLD school terrorists would ask “where are you from” the first word you would say was “eh” and they left you alone. That is not the case anymore.
When you are in a foreign country there are other tricks one can use but I am sure you would not have a clue.
“totally clueless”
And as for intelligence:, our classified mission we were on was declassified by Bush a few years back so I am sure you can tell us about yours OPS.
Tell me within the next 2 min where “Air America” including their riggers and mostly ex CIA are holding up as in retired: the name of the town will do. Let’s see wanna play games. If you can you might have some intelligence.
I will count as soon as you post your next comment. 120,119,118,117……………..
Ok I will give an extra 30 secs from reading my post.
I am starting to count.

Lostinshanghai..
would you clear up something for me? Did you serve in the 101st in Vietnam? Did you see combat? I'm not exactly certain based on what you wrote and just want to be clear.
