The world economy was a heck of a lot worse in 1932.

But look how we got out of the Great Depression and initiated post-war prosperity:

World War II and 60 million dead.

So Ron, do I take it that you will be voting for Mittens?

Good luck.

I have to admit, the one thing that the Republicans are better at than the Democrats is bullshittt and spin, not that the Dems try, they are just not as good at it.

Ron, your ME/Oil suggestion is so narrow (and broken-record, of late)...I was really more interested in broader economic policy suggestions that John (or any other rational voice) might bring forward.

"But romney said that he would drill our own too."

Yeah, you say that now...until the drilling rigs roll into Woodford's Canyon.

Edit: "well! up yurz then"

A stunning 'lack of class' from the Right.

"Maybe hes not that bad!;-)"

Hard to tell, isn't it?

In fact, it's hard to tell exactly what Rmoney is all about....

I thought McCain was a flip-flopper....Rmoney made McCain look as well-defined as El Cap.

That's one of the scariest things about him, and why you, or any other rational Republican would hitch their wagon to such an ill-defined, unknown quantity defies logic.

"But did you seriously read it? "

Of course he didn't.

He simply googled 'slowest recovery in history', and chose the Forbes piece because it had the right title, and sounded 'economic'. That was about the extent of Ron's attempt to bring 'facts' to his argument.

From your link:

"The charts show that by many measures, this is still the worst recovery on record from any recession in the U.S. since after World War Two."

Get the distinction, Ron?

So you really think this downturn is similar in scope & scale to any other since WWII?

Really?

2. Living in California, new voter tax initiatives are leading in the polls. California will have the highest sales tax in the country and one of the top 2 highest income taxes.

That's why I left California and haven't looked back.

Is it possible that it is the slowest recovery since WW2 because it is the worst recession since WW2?

no.. its not Ron.. because it isn't straight forward. A bigger recession could have different drivers and respond in a different manner.

Oh.. and Ron.. earlier today Jstan was correct. You did change the subject. You stated that the recovery was too slow and that was Obama's fault. I asked you how long it took for us to recover from the great depression and you said 14 years. So I asked you why you would give Obama a hard time when it has only been just over 3 years and we are in the biggest recession since the great depression..

And you responded..

Its not so much his domestic policy, as it is his foreign policy...

Which was a change of subject.

John M, I think thats a good question: "Is it possible that it is the slowest recovery since WW2 because it is the worst recession since WW2?"
I would partly say yes, but at the same time, it's not a fair side by side comparison. I really think that the playing field has changed, mostly due to natural resources and westward expansion (for lack of better terminology). An economic system that is based purely on growth, growth, growth must meet it's end somewhere when it extinguishes either the resources (humans are getting there) or it's ability to expand and support more people to buy more and more stuff.
Did anyone really think that real estate values growing at 20% a year was even remotely sustainable? (not that real estate was the de-facto cause of our most recent depression, but it sure was a big trigger/ indicator)

I really think that the playing field has changed,

I agree, which is why I think Ron's stating that Obama has done a poor job in leading the recovery is unsubstantiated. Plus I really don't want to give the country back to the party that was mostly responsible for our current mess. Not that I think the dems are all that great. But I would probably root for an open season on republicans as I think they have become one of the most corrupt and disgusting parties in American history.

We need to rein in corporate power
We need to rein in the military
We need to balance the budget
We need to start taking care of our own people, including health care
We need to rewrite the entire tax code

Simply out im an independent that doesnt like obama on a site full of obama lovers. Think on that.

Sorry.. I don't love Obama either. Think on that !!!! .. I just seriously think that the republican party at this point in time is about the most corrupt and evil party in american history. And since it is either vote for Obama, or vote for Romney.. I will vote for Obama.

Edit:

The party that I think will have the best possibility of even trying to do any of the things I listed above is the democratic party.

Oh.. and I believe that the democratic party is the party that is least likely to start another war.
