Those are fantastic Ken-I wonder if you could talk Haan into "cleaning" them up a bit? At least a preliminary exposure correction would be helpful. Peter is a master at that but I know it requires a great deal of time. Just thinkin.

That's not a bad idea, just to do the basic color and light correction which would make the pic easier to see.

These are wonderful pictures, keep them coming.

That would be great if someone wants to take that on. It is time consuming and I am not that great at it. I am also posting them on the YCA website.

I Ken,

If Peter cannot tackle this job, I will certainly volunteer. I may not have as sophisticated software as he has but I have enough to get the job done.
I have a slide scanner and software to improve the light sources of the pictures.

Please let me know if you want me to work on any of your pictures.

Hi Park Rat. How are you? Thank you for your offer. I am using a pretty good scanner. It is a Nikon Super Coolscan 8000. The original tif scans are 100+ MB each. I don't think they need rescanning. Many of them are dark and I have lightened some of them up a bit after copying them and resizing as web file jpegs. They look better on my computer and seem darker once they are downloaded to the forum. It would be nice to re-post them in a proper thread after they have been cleaned up.

How about a a try at fixing up this one?
It shows too much red, I think.

Here's my crude attempt to reduce the red.

Show us what you can do, Park Rat, Peter, ... !

Here's my own photo at approximately the same spot, October 2009.

Ken, were those photos from the 1968 rescue on Half Dome? The aerial one of the summit is stunning!

I believe so Anders. Guido has some of the helicopter and summit during the rescue and it appears to be the same helicopter. I expect he will chime in next time he is in port.

I've seen this effect before. I suspect this pic, with grossed-out contrast and wacked-out color, is a poorly done dupe, of a poorly done dupe, of a poorly done dupe, etc. Each time you lose more of the original. This one's so far gone you can never regain very much. Trick is to locate more copies of the exact same slide, and sort through them looking for the one closest to the original, which will have more detail. At least, I hope that's not an original......

Fantastic pictures, by the way! Thanks.

How old do you guess he is in the "Young Harding" image? One thing - he doesn't seem to have that aura of Hardingness, so evident in every image shown after he picked the Nose, about him yet. Guess that's life experience for you.
