Add to that the fact that it is so much easier to legally dodge taxes if you have the resources,
I don't deny that. Did you miss the part where I said NO EXEMPTIONS for wealthy people? No loopholes? Same for corporations like GE!

The Party you tend to vote most consistently with (notice I didn't call you a Republican) considers that a tax increase...you do realize that, don't you?

PS. I'm kind of a Republican in that I like small government that doesn't spend a lot of money. Rick Perry scares me.
Spider, I don't mean this as an attack, but this description of Republicans is part of their "Big Lie". This is their rhetoric, and what they sell, but it is not what they practice in real life when give the chance.
The most recent example of Perry. Our recent Governator. Palin. Bush.
You've seen all the graphs of Repub president budgets. The same in all the states.
It's rhetoric, that means nothing, because it's designed to bring people in, but never be acted upon.
Even the Great Libertarian, Ron Paul, now the Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology. It was a BIG DEAL whether he would get this Chairmanship, because he has been a huge critic of the Fed, making all sorts of threats, wanting to abolish it, investigate it, etc. So now he has complete power over it, and can haul them in front of him anytime to explain anything. And what has he done? N O T H I N G ! ! ! ! All hot air and bluster. All BS and smoke.
Typical Republican entertainment, to pull people in to the tent for the show. Timeworn hucksterism.
So you may be a person that likes small government that doesn't spend a lot of money, but I don't know what that is, it is NOT a Republican.

Rootin' Tootin' Rick Perry drank Sarah Palin's milshake. He drank it up!
The cheerleader ate the barracuda's lunch, stole her Teahadist base. Well played, Mr Perry, well played indeed. While Sarah was going for the fashionably late, debutant entry to the Ball, Perry snuck in the side door and DRANK HER MILKSHAKE. Poor Sarah, TV show canceled, the rabid base 22%-ers are in for Bachmann-crazy-overdrive and Rootin'-Tootin'-Rick, leaving Sarah with nothing but a big 'ol pot of Moose Stew.

"...it depends on who you talk/listen to in the party."
bluering, show me a quote from any current Republican who is in leadership (or simply a pundit) who believes changing the tax code so as to create equity is a good idea. More to the point, show me such a person who has actually taken action in that direction (without being crucified, excoriated, and excommunicated by the GOP).
The goal of the GOP is to 'starve the beast' of all tax revenues, and force reduction in government. A tightened tax code would simply preserve & increase revenues to the Fed. The GOP has no such interest.

Cheney'd better watch out his new book putting the blame on everyone else. General Colin Powell is gunnin' for Cheney. And I hear he's a durned good shot.
Cheney's Vietnam war record from Wikipedia
When Cheney became eligible for the draft, during the Vietnam War, he applied for and received five draft deferments He was happy enough to send our boys and girls to Iraq.
Now we return to our regular programming: Rick Perry

Apogee makes an excellent point:
What people say they stand for, and who they actually Do, are very different.
This is the definition of hypocrisy.
Republicans SAY they stand for fiscal "responsibility", yet when in power they spend money and drive up the national debt at a rate MUCH higher than Democrats.
Republicans SAY they stand for "less government" and "personal responsibility", yet they
want to pass MORE big government legislation to tell people who they can marry and who they cannot can and cannot give birth to.
Republicans SAY they want "smaller government", yet when they are in power they grow the size of the Federal government and use no "pay as you go" to fund their pet programs.
Republicans SAY they are "all about jobs", yet after eight months in control of the House they have passed ZERO "jobs" legislation, while managing to focus on the huge issues of defunding Planned Parenthood and National Public Radio.
There is not enough bandwidth to continue with more examples................

Nice dilemma Fatty, no self professed republican can show support for a prominent athiest in a public forum. That comes off worse than supporting ending tax cuts for the rich.

Republicans SAY they stand for "less government" and "personal responsibility", yet they
want to pass MORE big government legislation to tell people who they can marry and who they cannot can and cannot give birth to. And they claim to want a free market place--no or limited regulation. Yet they want to create more regulation by passing government (i.e. Republican)-sponsored legislation that limit or prohibit an individual's right to sue businesses when they've been injured by them.
