Once they get on the prophecy train there's nothing for it. They'll just go into a holding pattern with the "some day you'll remember I told you so" schtick. I worked with a guy like that once for three years and every single day's current event brought us closer and closer to the big apocalyptic crunch. He was especially keen on the rapture. He said "some day I'm not gonna show up to work, and no one will be able to find me. I want you to go to my house and take my Bible." I asked him if that happened was it okay if I took his guns too. He thought that was hilarious. "You can have them, but they won't do you any good." Of course.
Another time he was on an anti-abortion rant and I pointed out that every abortion means one less liberal. He was quiet for a minute, completely missing the joke, and said it was a good point, and he'd have to think about it. The topic never came up again.
