So he just won his 47th contest (out of 67) in the biggest contest surf at Teahupoo. His case just gets stronger.
Slater has now won two contests this season. His theory is that the world champ needs to win three contests to mathematically lock up title. No one else has won more than one contest. Still waiting for the official ASP numbers to be posted.
EDIT: Current ASP rankings after Tahiti
How'd you like his backwards, feet first, over-the-falls move late against Owen Wright on a solid 8 footer? I was shocked that Slater was able to paddle away from that one. I think he was lucky that the tide was up.

he just lost to Owen Wright (he's gonna be a force on tour I think). By losing I mean he got 2nd and only 100K.
He didn't look like himself in the final. Owen was always out front, getting the best waves, Kelly's board looked too short (he broke it in the final minutes) and he never got going. He looked asleep almost. Owen was blasting it though.
Title is gonna be close this year. The new kids are showing up strong.

NY pumps during hurricane season. Just glad Trestles is pumping fun sized waves too. California is holding its own. The pros love this venue.
... and now he's in the finals of the Hurley Pro against Owen Wright (again... they've been in the last 3 finals straight together!). Kelly should bring a torch and pass it ...
who's gonna win?

Alas, that is always the case with sports. The younger guys have strong muscles and a younger body. It becomes a test of experience versus strength.
Lois sweetheart, you need to study the history of Himalayan climbing before you make such pronouncements.

Slater going for title #12? Just won the Volcom Fii pro @ Tavarua with impressive backside tube riding. Is now 2nd behind Mick Fanning. And Slater is 40 years old.
