That is awesome! When what we usually think of, in regards to the bible, is 'go forth and multiply'.
Over-population is a huge concern of mine. It's interesting to hear that this has been addressed in the bible, and probably long ago (?)

Criticism of beliefs- in the interest of better practices in the practice of living-- doesn't translate to hate or hating people.
Agreed. You're totally right. Unfortunately, alot of the posts--especially the earlier ones--don't really qualify as an example of that.

No Jews, Muslims, etc.., on this site asking about favorite passages from other religious books? the only people on this site that discuss religious views are atheists and Christians. Hmmm.
I'd really like to see a Christian and a Jew arguing about Jesus on this site. It would be a bit more entertaining than just seeing the atheists and Christians going at it. More common ground would make for a much more interesting argument.
I have no favorite passages as they are all about as as meaningful to me as the works of Shakespeare and are sometimes as cryptic too.

Woe to You Oh Earth and Sea
for the Devil sends the beast with wrath
because he knows the time is short
Let him who have understanding
reckon the number of the beast
for it is a human number
its number is six hundred and sixty six...
(though it might really be 616 - check the wiki for an interesting sidebar discussion on the actual number of said beast...)

So the US's total abstinence policy of the last few years came right out of the bible.
Did not get it entirely correct however.
More modification of the holy scripture- I guess.
Were those who corrupted god's word not made to suffer greatly?

My favorite verse that comes to me through the power of the Holy Spirit, when I need it the most is from.
John 14:1-3 "Let not your heart me troubled; you belive in God, belive also in Me. In my Fathers house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and recieive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
That verse means alot to me, the return of Christ. And man it is going to happen! The bible is the absolute truth! The word of God does not lie!

How many people have died because of people?
Lots of people have died as a result of U.S. policies since the country's founding. However, I don't see everyone on this site renouncing their citizenship. People, human motives are often far too complex than to just blame the Bible. Sure, it may be a true observation, but it's also a cop out. How many people have died because of the Koran, or because of communism (Mao's policies killed what, some 30 million), or failed environmental practices? You can go on endlessly.

You know, the Bible is quite a fine book of fiction. My friends and I enjoy laughing at the lies and plagerisms displayed as "holy f*#king scripture". Give me a f*#king break! The only quote needing to be quoted is, "Death is Certain, Life it Not!"

Something to do with a mustard seed and tree. It's invalid and
kinda funny as presented at some places.
I'll post it up if I can find it. I think it's from the new testament.

Matthew 17:20, He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Proverbs 10:20, The tongue of the righteous is choice silver;
the heart of the wicked is of little worth.
My Help and My Deliverer
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
Psalm 40, I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
2 He drew me up from the pit of destruction,
out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,
making my steps secure.
3 He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.
4 Blessed is the man who makes
the Lord his trust,
who does not turn to the proud,
to those who go astray after a lie!
5 You have multiplied, O Lord my God,
your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us;
none can compare with you!
I will proclaim and tell of them,
yet they are more than can be told.
6 In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted,
but you have given me an open ear.
Burnt offering and sin offering
you have not required.
7 Then I said, “Behold, I have come;
in the scroll of the book it is written of me:
8 I delight to do your will, O my God;
your law is within my heart.”
9 I have told the glad news of deliverance
in the great congregation;
behold, I have not restrained my lips,
as you know, O Lord.
10 I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;
I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;
I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness
from the great congregation.
11 As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain
your mercy from me;
your steadfast love and your faithfulness will
ever preserve me!
12 For evils have encompassed me
beyond number;
my iniquities have overtaken me,
and I cannot see;
they are more than the hairs of my head;
my heart fails me.
13 Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me!
O Lord, make haste to help me!
14 Let those be put to shame and disappointed altogether
who seek to snatch away my life;
let those be turned back and brought to dishonor
who delight in my hurt!
15 Let those be appalled because of their shame
who say to me, “Aha, Aha!”
16 But may all who seek you
rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who love your salvation
say continually, “Great is the Lord!”
17 As for me, I am poor and needy,
but the Lord takes thought for me.
You are my help and my deliverer;
do not delay, O my God!

My favoirte quote by Jesus is NOT FROM THE BIBLE, but is about the Bible and is translated directly from an ancient scroll in Aramaic Hebrew.
Jesus said:
"Seek not the law in your scriptures, for the law is life, whereas the scripture is dead. I tell you truly, Moses received not his laws from God in writing, but through the living word. The law is living word of living God to living prophets for living men. In everything that is life is the law written. You find it in the grass, in the tree, in the river, in the mountain, in the birds of heaven, in the fishes of the sea; but seek it chiefly in yourselves. For I tell you truly, all living things are nearer to God than the scripture which is without life. God so made life and all living things that they might by the everlasting word teach the laws of the true God to man. God wrote not the laws in the pages of books, but in your heart and in your spirit. They are in your breath, your blood, your bone; in your flesh, your bowels, your eyes, your ears, and in every little part of your body. They are present in the air, in the water, in the earth, in the plants, in the sunbeams, in the depths and in the heights. They all speak to you that you may understand the tongue and the will of the living God. But you shut your eyes that you may not see, and you shut your ears that you may not hear. I tell you truly, that the scripture is the work of man, but life and all its hosts are the work of our God. Wherefore do you not listen to the words of God which are written in His works? And wherefore do you study the dead scriptures which are the work of the hands of men?”
