John Hammond, grinning wickedly.
Can't you hear the thunder, someone stole my watch
I sold a quart of blood and bought a half a pint of Scotch
Someone tell those Chinamen on Telegraph Canyon Road
When you're on the bill with the spoon, there ain't no time to unload
So bye bye baby, baby bye bye
right up the street one mile

Just back from "One Night With Janis Joplin". Mary Bridget Davies is the
second coming of Janis. She is scary good and leaves it all on the stage.
Not only does she sound exactly like Janis she looks like her too!
The band was fekking great. Unbelievable show. In between numbers she
talks mostly using actual Janis quotes about growing up in Port Arthur, Texas
and how she came to love the blues and all the blues singers who influenced
her. Whenever she mentions one Sabrina Elayne Carton does that singer - Odette,
Bessie Smith, Nina Simone, Aretha. I'm here to tell you that woman can SING!
What an amazing show. The audience was going nuts like at a real Janis show!
We came home and ordered tickets for next Friday. It closes Sunday, 21 April,
and moves on to Milwaukee and Washington, DC. That's prolly a good thing
cause we would probably go back a third time. (tickets ain't cheap)

zb, missed the john hammond set earlier; saw it on ACL. John Hammond has more talent in his little finger, playin that resonater than a lot of his counterparts have in their careers.
(fyiworkin' through the thumbdrive)
My favorite hammond cover of a waits song, i've posted before:
