not Fire on the Mountain, just on the hillz. 640 structures (548 homes) 9-17-1923
The pumps didn't work and it wasn't the vandals, there was no water in the pipes.
{{As a belated result of this fire, in 1948, the City of Berkeley constructed a fire station in the hills at 2931 Shasta Road (at Queens Road) just below Grizzly Peak Blvd.[1] In the early 2000s, this station was replaced and relocated to a nearby site just above Grizzly Peak Blvd. at 3000 Shasta Road,[2] on the interface between the residential area and Tilden Regional Park, very close to the putative origin of the 1923 fire.}}

David Brower told of his experiences during the Berkeley fire of 1923 but I cannot find a link.
600 (or so) houses lost when the fire moved like lightning down the slope out of Wildcat Canyon; but in the afternoon the wind shifted to save downtown Berkeley.
Brower titled a documentary he helped put together on the Tenth Mtn Division "Fire On the Mountain."[Click to View YouTube Video]

Not A Whiter Shade of Pale
Gross~Man
{After Joplin died of a heroin overdose in October 1970, the car was loaned to her former manager, Albert Grossman. Joplin’s family asked Grossman to return the car several years later, and discovered it to be in poor condition. With the psychedelic paintwork literally falling off the car, and Joplin’s fame fading, the family decided to have the car refinished in its factory shade of Dolphin Gray.}

The Cry of the Sasquatch
I searched the frozen winter's day
To find the path along my way
And was not sure where it should go
Beneath the freshly fallen snow
I followed stones along a rise
Beneath the grey and clouded skies
Where trees no longer grew too tall
As the icy wind was winter's call
There across the talus field
Where the Sasquatch ran amok ah
They found only bones and tatters
Above lonely lake Winnemucca
Where fourteen hikers perished
Their remains and incidentals
Scattered o'er the scree
Strewn with limbs and bones oh yuck uh
There the wily old rescue fogey
Was gnawing on a tattered stogie
Like Churchill or the actor Bogey
And craved his bourbon or hoagie
He informed me quietly
This was not the place to be
So I headed back towards the highway
But came face to face with death that day
If you knew me I am now lost
I knew better and I've paid the cost
For I came upon the Sasquatch den
And was felled by what lie there within
If there's something you would do
Please don't search for me for if you do
You will regret it and will surely die
When you hear that eerie Sasquatch cry

I believe I have a better example, or at least different from this one, but I have to keep on searchin'.
This is not that photo; however, it has something to say.
Talk about gaseous emissions...
and who comes to mind?
JF -- That's Sixth in Sedona, AZ, I'm pretty sure. Just passin' through from Jerome.
edit: Scratch that, I checked a map. You're right, sir. Fits the sequencing of the images, too.

How about distance runner Kenenisa Bekele, bad ass. Two world records in the last decade; 26:17 for 10,000 meters (6.2 miles at 4:12 per mile!)and 12:37 for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles at 4:07 per mile). Just a thought.

Yes, Gnome OD, yessiree,
Been on a spree, hooblie & me.

We're switching from desert to icefield, one, two, three.
Reading of Bonatti, Haston, and Chris B,
Young Jack Tackle took things seriously
Eventually joining The Dirty Sox Club.
Quite a good listen as I lie abed draining fluid from my FAT LEGS.
hooblie gave me some details, scattered among the anecdotes, of some of Jack's adventures.
