wardtrotter, thanks for the Laura Mvula, she got a listen and will get some more.

bro hooblie,i love the sounds of rickie lee jones. she has the coltrane attitude and emulates him in her singing, using her imagination her vibrato, range and timbre. She's human Leslie speaker.

some of her work on my juke box:

Rickie Lee Jones ≈ St. James Infirmary

Marlow - "Cool video, cool cat..." -- thnx. 2 cool cats, imo (kitty & dood). i was watching that vid on a different site a couple months ago and he got a # of posts regarding the cats safety, etc! he stated that (& gave the exact sec on the vid w here ya cud see it) the cat had a chest harness & it was attached snugly to him. btw, yer vid of the 'street' skater brought back some sweet memories (not that i was anywhere as good as that dood, though)! 2 cool vids of people making the best of & enjoying life outdoors in the inner city.

Hey Tobia:

I got a hold of the April 19, 1969 show by The Band at Winterland in as good a quality as it's gonna get as far as I can tell.

Anyway, it got me to thinking that Robbie Robertson never plays with a slide that I can recall seeing or hearing.

So:

Listen sometime to the sliding technique that Robbie uses. I don’t remember where I read this, but in an interview with him I remember him saying that as a kid listening to the late night radio show, he didnt realize that slide guitar was played with a slide; so he adapted a technique of his own to create that effect of sliding up the string. This is a feature of Robbie’s style also found in Roy Buchanan’s records.

My assignment, I guess, should I choose to accept it, is to find some examples.

zb. it wouldn't be an assignment if you had a choice; that would be a choicement or decidement. the root word, after all is assign.

Try All La Glory, on the lp Stage Fright, Robbie plays slide; albeit fed through something resembling a Leslie Speaker. (Please don't tell Henry I helped you with your homework.)

splitter,
i got a friend who's neighbor has been renamed buckethead. every time you post one of their tunes i crack up laughing, for some reason i don't think the band has anything to do with it.
