Degnan's Dorms was my first introduction to the climbing "lifestyle". Once I understood, I was ready for action...and cowboy was there to sandbag me. If I could go back in time, I'd start there. Glorious youth!

I met Randy one winter's night in that dorm apartment with you four ladies. You had invited me to dinner--spaghetti most likely. Randy was there from June Lake. Terry and I had just returned from a backpacking trip so I was sitting there with my backpack still ready to go out again--or back to my cave. About 10 p.m. or so, Randy and I got to talking (and flirting). He told me that "he really liked to backpack more than to climb". (mark that down as a pick-up line from an artist). I said "well, we should go together sometime". Randy said "sure! when?" I said "how about now?" So we walked out the door and were together for 12 years until he died. That was one helluva long backpacking trip.
I loved Van Morrison's "Moondance" I used to sing it to myself when I would hike up the mountain to my cave that winter

Mouse: I will know this Monday the 4th if it is a go. But for sure Wool Growers. Knew the old family as well as the their kids who now run it, went there on the way home 3 weeks ago and found out after I ate one of the boys who I knew very well died a few years back. Hugh funeral. I was in a sad mood leaving and driving home. One thing that is great about Bikers Field ask anyone where it is they will tell you how to get there.
After 10 years thought for sure downtown L.A. would have some nice new High-rises. Nothing, understand the Koreans are going to put up the highest structure plus design looks nice. Just waiting for the Chinese to start building.
Trip was not all that bad little traffic at the right time and went by my old house.
Universal, MCA took over in the late 50’s, sold or part of it to Matsushita Electric think Sony Records got in somewhere could be wrong now owned by Comcast.
In the 60’s they made it into a theme park: tours, rides and the like. A few of the local kids and myself would make our tours at night when we were 10 years old and would last through high school. This would have been in the late 50’s and ending in “64. Patrol cars would come by and we would hide in the buildings.
The buildings were just fronts or props and anything done inside would be in the large studios. But a lot of them had the first floor with the trimmings. For some reason some of them went missing.
not in the original place they moved it. It was more or further down from where it is now. Plus all those buildings were not there as well.
The window that I would get out
There was never a gate number at the time but would climb the fence or cut wire next to bushes to get in.
Warner Brothers was just in the area as well
Pretty easy to get done and up from the LA wash [river] in Burbank.
Then when I finished taking those photos back on the road
Went to a private birthday party, actually his birthday was the day before but was with family and then the real party was the next night.
Bob Bain 92 years and still playing the other player was Jim Fox.
I recorded and video about 19 songs from the party but notice that to post it would have to use You-Tube; felt it best to keep it personal and not all over the net.
Bass player, Bob and Jim played from some of the list below, the best ones.

I used to live right across from Ozzie Nelson's house in Hollyweird.
I ran into this house one day on the other (valley) side of the hills. It wasn't haunted like Ozzie's, but it's very unique.
I also rode my mountain bike into the Universal "theme" park one day through a "seldom used entrance". I went out the main entrance which took the ticket takers by surprise.
I think it was used in the 1984 film Body Double. You can see more here:
http://whitelabel.openbuildings.com/buildings/10739
and no Mouse, you cannot look away down Gower Avenue from there. You have to go back over the hill.

To say that Cowboy's mania for Van Morrison took strange forms is putting it mildly. He wanted to name a climb for it, but it never happened.
He never gave a "straight answer,"either, if he could help it, unless it got him some...He was the sandbagging master.
Take this page and LOVE IT!
Wool Growers it is, and I hope it's a "go," Jay.

So what did Ozzie's house look like you ask?
As to the large z in the photo, I can only assume that they knew I'd be coming along one day in search of a photo to show all my new found friends and acquaintences.
Yep, Camino Palmero all right
1822 Camino Palmero Road
Hollywood, CA 90046
History of Manifestations
During his life, the cheerful comedian Ozzie Nelson took care of his body, and strived to live a healthy life style. He ate right, didn't drink, didn't smoke and kept in good shape. So, it didn't seem fair that he was stricken with liver cancer, and died way too young at 68. He wasn't ready to leave his family, and had expectations to see his grandchildren grow up.
The apparition of Ozzie Nelson has been seen in various spots in the house by a variety of people:
1.His family has seen his somber apparition walking around the house, and hanging around his favorite places.
2.When new owners bought the home in 1975 and moved in, they heard footsteps, faucets and lights seemed to have a mind of their own, and doors opening and closing at will, with no help from the living. The woman also felt a strong, loving presence beside her in bed several occurrences
3.In 1994, a painter who was working inside the house, kept hearing foot steps. One day while painting, he felt a strong unseen presence next to him. Looking over, he saw a white, misty form floating next to him, perhaps inspecting his work. It wasn't hostile, just seemed to be interested, like a home owner would act.

I can't believe your gone, memories linger on. Ozzie was a handsome man - kind of a cross between Rick and Dave. Notice all the hotties in the audience. Tempted to say "cake and pie", oops.

Did somebody say "Hotties?"
KnitLit's hairstyle back then kept reminding me of this gal, a black & white matinee favorite, though before MY time.

I certainly wish there was a photo of good old Spatz, who was good at making friends...
I saw the L.A. commercial, Jay. http://www.discoverlosangeles.com/
Yeah, don't bother clicking cuz theyalready "discovered" the place, a long time ago.

IBen hangin' around downtown today, it's such a splendid one.
And I ran into a good old friend, and his honey bun.
His name's Ben and her's Eileen, the one sells weed, the other "lean."
She's a business lady witn attutude. He's a planter lad with gratitude...
for her giving him a space in the rear of the building she rents for her aerobically-inspired Zumba and RIPPED system workouts, for an artists' gallery, which is taking place before our eyes.
I've known each for about ten years. They are the age of my stepson, mid-thirties. We all agreed that the best thing for downtown is art and art awareness. We were all sitting at Ben's, having met at Coffee Bandits. We then adjourned, Ben and I to his gallery, she to her business. I shot Ben and his gallery, then walked over to the Tioga. Gut before I got there, I decided to double back and take some shots of the front of the building.
Next thing I know, Eileen is showing me her space. Colorful, innit? She took some shots with the new camera, and I'm on a new footing with two people who I've known and wondered about for years. Ben is and has been an artist, as well as my dealer, and has a legitimate commune catering to cannabis.
Eleen was and isn't the partner of Natalie at the bookstore I worked at on the mall any longer, but she's still the mother of two kids, one of whom had his artwork shown here just last week on Supertopo.com., by me, as part of an exhibit of teen art from Merced High School. His name is Perry Freitas, and his mom is Eileen, I just found out, and he was only seven the last time I saw him! They grow up so fast and get such weird ideas...

back to the topic at hand
whilst living in Hollywood, I met and played basketball with Marvin Gaye at the YMCA.
He invited us down to the studio on Sunset to watch him record
..
this isn't my photo, but it's Marvin recording at his studio all right. I can vouch for it. What's missing? The huge sack of vitamins he was gobbling down. The band liked the herbal sacrament, but Marvin preferred massive vitamin doses (at work at least).
Anyway, Let's Get It On

hey there say, mouse... wow, neat new street adventurers...
wow, it is so easy to type now.. but now the RAT keeps getting in the way...
this makes good time for her to get out and visit me, as, lately i been so busy....
say, i remember wayyyy back, when i did 'the so called zumba' stuff, in my own home, when i had my babies, and could not get out much, during the day...
it was, cumbian, tejano, and all the etc...
only then:
it was just called using dance for exercise, in artistic fun ways...
very creative, it was...
so happy for her to teach this stuff...
i did teach dance classes once, when there was enough folks around to
actually WANT to do it (and not miss their tv shows etc)..
and--i LOVED having a huge mirror--brings back good memories...
had one way back, when the kids were young though.. cost a lot to
put it up in the house but was worth it when i taught belly dance...
and now, you have found more neat art!!!
he had inspired me to someday do a large painting...
sadly, the large size that i like, they do not carry at the hobby sotre,
here... sotre = store, by the way, i constantly type it wrong...
(have just decided,if i leave it and do this enough, i just might type 'store' on purpose, someday, instead of as having to FIX it... :))
well, happy street adventure, and keep on sharing...
all those you meet, are part of history, here, now... :))
