So, first, thank you all for a warm welcome. Next, I'm still metabolizing this enormous thread, Mouse. It's a tome! Bravo!
Now, about the reason I'm a Flame Mama. Dennis The Millis Miller: Indelible, infinitely hilarious, a savage mime, vulgar angel, never a dull edge unless he was comatose...the most endearing, infuriating, entertaining human being I've been blessed to know. He kept me pee-in-my-pants laughing all the way to Ventura and back in a rattletrap Flamemobile more than once with Spatz (I can hear D now, "Me and my dog, Spatz.") riding shotgun.
I wish D could have lived on, dismaying and delighting any and all as long as he would have chosen. Bless his heart.
I'll write more later today, like Cowboy Larry Warms His Socks.

We all just kick back and try to get higher
Heart cockles warming like feet next to a fire
Our memories are kind of like moths to a flame
Sweet mirth overcomes all the forgotten pain
Sock it to me, Yarnspinner.
Millis the incredible, inedible, indelible cracked egg.
A person like Millis "is an endless struggle between light and darkness, like any painting."
"A good page of literature is one that can be read and enjoyed aloud."
"Literature and music exist in time: they have a beginning and an end. Painting and sculpture exist in space...Where does the Venus de Milo begin: in her navel,
in her breasts, or in her head? Where does an abstract painting begin: in the lower left corner, or in the center?"
"I dream that I paint, and I paint the dream when I wake up. On what side of reality will I be?"

in the interests of improving the readability of this sometimes confusing thread, I have reduced the size of the motorized 1933 uni-cycle
however, something else is stretching the page size
Dr. Wilson will now be leaving the building - gotta go tally some bananas.

they are just widening the freeway, man.
South Bay, North Hollywood, West L.A., East of Eden Rock, man, you got bananas and cracked eggs all over the street, Plain Wrapper.
Better call the traffic checker.

I was thinking they could re-name Los Angeles as Lost Arrow.
Separated realities, like violet and red, not confusing if you read it all and comprehend that you are not Ed, Devoe, or Bob.
What's the view like up that avenue today?
I can't even see the foothills today.
Atmosphere, you see. Actually, you can't see...

Yes Los Angeles what would we do with out it.
They have been in last couple of weeks "Come and Experience Los Angeles" on commercials: all networks, explaining the sites like Hollywood, Downtown L.A. the oceans, the food and all the fun you can have.
The only thing they did not discuss/mention or say was the f*cking traffic. True if you do go you have to the know the timing not to get into it but still there is that fire truck parked way over in the
far, far right lane off the side of the freeway [405]; firemen eating lunch and everyone stops to see. Can never figure it out does Los Aliens have they never seen a fire truck before.
Back up for miles as soon as you get to the fire truck 70 miles per hour starts again.
The colour of the sky keeps changing over the years: they colour it, when it was brown they added additives to make it look grey, then that work for a while and now they add a blue tint.

A poem, by Henry Gibson.
Steinbeck Raised Me from the Dead and Sent Me to Heaven: Mice Story
In the good old days in Monterey, after Mouse’s plans had gone a-gley,
When the Beatles set the mode by producing Abbey Road,
Three young lads from old Merced
Settled there and bravely said:
“There’s an ugly, sucky world out there, it's fillin’ up with real bad air.
So we’re protestin’: see our hair?
Put us down now, we don’t care!
And stop killing Commies cuz it ain’t fair!”
Instead, they climbed the Pinnacles rocks, huffed and puffed and filled their socks
With little bits of stone debris, their torn-up trousers showed the knee,
They're awful proud to get to stand
Atop the fingers of the Hand.
College is great, yessiree, but Mouse could not wait for his degree.
He took his leave of MPC and settled in Yosemite.
He had his turn and now it’s your
Time to experience today’s Camp 4.
[Somebody else describe it poetically---I don’t live there now, you see.]

Jay, man, you said it! It's enough to watch the Oscars once a year and NCIS/LA. Thank God L.A. isn't habit-forming.
I am talking you into going to see Tom R. at Bikers Field with Ben. I fully intend to make the trip. I wouldn't miss the opportunity to go to the Wool Growers.
We are going to the Wool Growers, not the Olive Garden, right?
"Peace."
Good thoughts, vibes, wishes, too.

One end of the visible spectrum.
Another end of the same.
You could put your eye out and miss the beginning and the end.
Would you miss the sunsight or the sunclipse more? The same? Worse?
Or reading?

knitLit:
neat hats... folks have used knit hats, all through
the past, in the treks of the great outdoors, ...
was seeing a bunch, as to sailors, and mountaineers...
i just found a neat one to knit for my grandkids...
it kind of has some artistic flare, to it...
hope they keep it in THEIR history...
i never wore knit caps, but they sure do work, against
the winter winds, etc... :O

Better now?
Or worse now?
Are they like, Better, Better, and Better? Or Worse, Worse, and Worse?
That's a sorry pun. I'm full of remorse. :)
Hmmm...woolen caps. WHERE have I seen eight-dollar crocheted caps for sale before?
It was in good old Berkeley, that's where, at the North Face, about the time we started seeing dreads on every other guy on the Avenue, and the hats were hand-made by Dolores, my wife. These were sold as "Aunt Ord's" hats, as that's her family's nickname for Dolores, "Ordie."
I suggested she try to make some money and they were easily-made and sold very well because they were all different and none were alike, too, and they were really warm and cheap. I hand-lettered the sale tags, but never had one of her hats myself, that I remember. I had my good old balaclava, which looks a little weird but gets the job done, especially nowadays for this old baldy.

Cowboy Larry Warms His Socks
As Gypsy recounted way back in this thread, re the winter of '71, I was one of four lucky women who lived that whole winter in the Degnan's dorm apartment. Praise everlong to Frank Donohoe, the coolest boss, for giving us rent-free (except for utilities) quarters in trade for our solemn pledge that we four would be on the spot to help him open Degnan's in early spring. We all drew unemployment by mail. No work, all play. Yosemite Valley. Words can't describe.
Naturally, Cowboy Larry Moore warmed his socks many afternoons in the glow of the one, tiny, electric heater in the apartment. He was there one day when Mary Lou Stuart and Mollie Felso, both folkies to the core in those times, put their favorite Melanie album on the stereo.
The Cowboy plugged his ears and gagged. "That ain't music!" He grabbed his boots and stomped out the door, grimacing, in pain. "That's pisswater!"
A little later, he cruised in packing a bottle of bum wine, "It ain't vintage Ripple, but it's gooooood Ripple," plus two albums the rest of us either hadn't heard or hadn't thought worth hearing, American Beauty and Moondance.
Oh, Cowboy Larry. That music, that winter afternoon -- and my first swig of non-vintage Ripple -- thrive in me, forever young, thanks to you.

Degnan's Dorms was my first introduction to the climbing "lifestyle". Once I understood, I was ready for action...and cowboy was there to sandbag me. If I could go back in time, I'd start there. Glorious youth!

I met Randy one winter's night in that dorm apartment with you four ladies. You had invited me to dinner--spaghetti most likely. Randy was there from June Lake. Terry and I had just returned from a backpacking trip so I was sitting there with my backpack still ready to go out again--or back to my cave. About 10 p.m. or so, Randy and I got to talking (and flirting). He told me that "he really liked to backpack more than to climb". (mark that down as a pick-up line from an artist). I said "well, we should go together sometime". Randy said "sure! when?" I said "how about now?" So we walked out the door and were together for 12 years until he died. That was one helluva long backpacking trip.
I loved Van Morrison's "Moondance" I used to sing it to myself when I would hike up the mountain to my cave that winter
