The Bald Eagles were brought to the Channel Island exclusively to protect the foxes from Red
Tailed Hawks & Golden Eagles. That was started in the late 1990's.

I saw that disco ball hanging there a couple of weeks ago, and thought maybe it was supposed to scare away bees or something.

I hadn't stood in aiders for 30+ years so I thought I'd check out the [formerly] manky bolt ladder on Jesus Wall. After a major modernisation in 2010, the mankiness appears to have vanished: there are no spinning or loose hangers. Yes, there are a couple of historic artifacts that you have to hang on, but they seem pretty solid. I never found anything to be overly reachy, but I'm 5'10" with maybe longer than average arms, so a shorter person's mileage may vary.

Historic Artifact #1: bolt stud, which is the second thing you hang on, off the ground (but it seemed solid).

Historic Artifact #2: plant hanger, which had maybe the longest reach to get to; seemed pretty solid.

View down Jesus Wall

OK anchors on bottom, for those who want to go it alone.

Excellent anchors on top.

Cut my teeth on stoney grit from about 85-90. Met my best friend there, Peter Hayes and are still friends to this day. So much history,so many lies!!

Nice shot Kenygl.

Peter Hayes... now that is a blast from the past. I trust he is doing well, does he Taco????

That dude would run more laps on Maggies Farm than any person ever.

And that's no lie.

If you see him please tell him that Guy says hi.

And he needs to come visit, the stone awaits.

Anyway I came here to post a announcement:

HOTDOG BBQ The tradition continues this Thursday 5.10
at Boulder 1 .... The esteemed film maker: Cole Gibson is bringing out his BBQ and will spark it up around 6 at Boulder 1.

Bring: Dogs, Buns, chips or whatever you like to eat or drink or smoke....
roll on over and toss into the pile and help yourself.

PLEASE don't be shy, introduce yourself and be ready for some sandbagging, Stoney style.

thx

Mr. Gas ...... another time sure, but still connected to Stoney.

Do you still do Stoney?

When I walk down the hill from the hwy I feel connected to all the climbers who I climbed with, some have passed and some are still around.

There are some up and coming climbers out there now. Uber strong and motivated.

This is "ready for take off" a old Kevin Thaw problem just right of Yanos Arête.

I point out "old problems".... I mean point out, not demonstrate, long forgotten problems to
these kids. I am just amazed at how fast one will figure it out, chalk it up, and move on.

The old problems look just killer all chalked up and proud.

The Bob Kamps problems are the hardest for them to get, lots of technical sh#t with strength being low on the list..... Good footwork pays off.

Hope to see you at Stoney.

Tfish.... yes, very lightly. The streets were wet but not running water. SP should be good to go sat/Sunday ... if we get some sun.

I had no idea it rained! Unfortunately I cannot climb right now anyway =/. I was really looking forward to Church Dome this weekend! Hopefully I'll be back on the rock soon.

In the meantime, I need climbing models for a photoshoot. If anyone is interested in participating in a rock climbing photoshoot, please let me know via e-mail. I think you can e-mail through supertopo or find me on facebook! I don't have the exact date yet, but it will be sometime in June. Definitely on a Wednesday. I plan to shoot at Stoney Point and Malibu Creek. All participants will receive a free tee-shirt and chalk bag :)

Tons of fun last nite, pretty cool temps.

A person .... def not a climber... fell on the hike in and hit his head. Then he started rambling incoherently.

Dances w boulders .... was smart and got the boys from the fire dept down ASAP.

I think the dude was on bath salts or something.

I got some shots from the iPhone .... can't figure out how to post directly.

Hey Guyman. I actually saw Peter yesterday. I went over to his house and we are both stoked to get out to do some climbing together. We both live in Salt Lake. There are a LOT of people I remember from the past at Stoney in the late 80's. George Grove & his little pixie Debbie, Jerry a huge guy who climbed with style and grace for a fat man, Rasta Jay, Peter, Gargoyle, Gustavo Lesin, so many great people. We didn't have crash pads back then. The day I met Peter I was doing laps on boulder 1 and a guy was at the base asking me where was my rope and didn't I know I could get hurt bouldering so high without a spotter or a rope. Back then it was common practice to use a tope rope on stoney boulder problems. . He was walking on 2 canes and his feet were f*#ked up. Turns out it was Peter fresh off his deck fall from Point Magu. We became fast friends, sharing a sarcastic nature, and were both soon working at A-16 in West LA. I met a ton of people while working there, Largo, Chris Allport, Steve Edwards, Hans Florine as he was stsrtiong to compete and speed climb. Heady times

Hey Guy since you knew Pete here is a little gem. Peter has a steel trap for a memory and can draw a topo from memory like no one I've ever met. Here is a topo he drew for me a few days after we met.
