Not that many heel-hooks here, jogill.
I never had as a goal doing a problem as quickly as possible. This was in contrast with many others I climbed with, particularly Bob Williams, who was instrumental in getting Jim Holloway into dynamics. We saw our craft through different lenses, but respected one another and had entertaining bouldering sessions. Whether a problem was difficult or easy to solve didn't make much difference to me; if it was easy and was appealing, I would work on polishing my performance, like a gymnast doing his best with a simple routine, enjoying the kinaesthetics as much as the challenge. A lot had to do with that flow a gymnast gets, where moves are done with a deceptive sensation of effortlessness. There were few around who saw bouldering that way, even in those days. Most - like now - wanted to do the hardest thing they could and weren't concerned with style and form. There are several ways to play the game, but the pursuit of difficulty almost always prevails. To show how far I wandered from the mainstream, I avoided using a heel-hook, thinking that it turned what I considered artistic into a kind of jungle gymnastics . . .

when the world gives you sour lemons, add, sweetness & crush them lemons into aid
“The trick is in what one emphasizes"
"We either make ourselves miserable"
"or we make ourselves happy".
"The amount of work is the same.”
-Carlos Castaneda.
I've been saying that for decades,
I'm sure I read it thrice, I'd not known it consciously
So much that I would not do that Carlos also perscibed,
but there it is
that's where That way of life is from ,
never have a bum trip,
keep it light and happy
or go off and find the bliss .
to keep grounded some climbed rocks.
A Week of. Camping over after 4 days? -My kids have computer desires that out weigh any climbing drive.
It is ok, the wife won't sleep on the ground anymore.
and bear don't xx@%* in the woods.
So, day one - two tents and water food - the works-
We wait till the dusk-set
then a dash past the gates and up to the best damn place
to sleep
next to the top of El Cap,
where no tents are needed( either )
.imho.
As to being bad? Yeah what of it?
Watching for a 'happy' ranger?
No need to fear
Gnome here,
it was my plan, if a fool was to patrol,
to fall entirely on my sword
and hope no check of my numbers would be made.
I'm a serial trespasser to z.
There are solution pockets as big as bathtubs,
and some places to drop down below the Rim
to bivy & brew up, in total privacy, with a view
The place is magic , still,
on a ledge on the face
overlooking the place of mis-spent youth.
It is sad, pathetic, but the consequences
of a great place near to many people that it has to be illegal.
Each day at dawn, to keep off the radar,
meant, a 7 minute retreat.
It was a bit of a chore,
but no one night-climbs anymore - so we had that part of the Mountain'* to ourselves.
My ankles really don't hike so good and the climbing while stout is out,
I can't risk having to rebuild my shoulders. . . Again.
Needless to say we trotted off each day to the "Plasma"* diner, and watched to see who could spot the climbers from the Riff-Raff?
Mostly one and the same.
'* there is no Mountain just a rise in topography, leading to Millbroke they call that bump,a mound with a sheer face a Mountain.
"* the Plaza dinner was renamed by the formatting master of word twisting and a climbing friend of mine the late great Jack Mileski,(& no I'm not Bones!)
My apologies in advance
as I've been scarce - but well entertained - I had hoped to add
back at the Gypse photo.
I've got a picture that looks as if it were taken seconds later.
well?
OK
A different Duck
The Fathers-day Gift
Total immersion in a waste of cake
that now has me wanting more
or
For the one I've been given to make me smile not frown.
As always very late to the party,
things have been interesting.
Months ago I shared that Chinese glass, hit by the realization of a Pussy grabber & Thief Administration with the white supremacist Sessions as AG,
the notes of the sweet jazz
that has been a boom in Guhahzu and all over China,
Especially when it comes to 4/20 friendly Glass
have taken on a derdge like tune.
The prices for hundred dollars of glass bong drop 75%
still past the zero ration I'm on
So I had to pass
on the chance that the snoops
had caved and a Valley Giant or the spicy Merlin Cam ?
Was what the dent in the budget was I'd crossed a finger
Instead I got a bong,
In secret in the leaky slab room
it was a special Father's Day gift,
that I got a piece!
Yeah, lucky dawg,
but the bong was defective
The Chinese glass thing that had grabbed me
Of the things that grabbed me were
the purchase has a no questions return policy
it was very plainly stated.
So I've spent ten times the time of the cost
( if I had been paid )to try and work the system to any satisfaction.
They say if it is not as pictured, does not work as described or mal functions does not work, it can be returned or kept the pledge says guaranteed
( have trouble spelling that )
So here we are not that it isn't beautiful,
a shape and name that fits,
and is cute.
The thing is parfait cup shape a cone of glass sections that has 5 chambers for the smoke &water to rise thru.
Called the Sunday Stack in-cycler
so it is supposed to send the smoke and water swilling around the whole cup,
I am , gnome Ofthe Diabase, #339-69946 I have now sent the video to (2) different email addresses, 1) njdispute@dhg.com 2) evidenced @dhg.com I also have, against better judgement- after all - up loaded the video to YouTube videos this is that link~>,
Has been removed
but the one I got has chamber holes that are lined up,
infact defeating the circulation function.
The bubbles run a short course from entry hole to a chamber tube
that should be off set but is less the a centimeter from the smoke entry point.
This means that the bubbles only flow up past another wrongly,
front oriented set of tubes by-passing all the chambers.

Ralph Waldo Immersion, sagest sage for miles, probably had a quote for you:
"My life is not an apology, but a life."
Good cheer, Gnome.
This is my wish for you:
Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds,
laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag,
beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe,
confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth,
love to complete your life.

Small rock hell is my domain but no Diabase in sight, and no clowns, climber.
That could be turned around ( No Climbers or Clowns but there is a Castel, falling down.

I had an email from Jim Shirley this morning and he told me that he has been diagnosed as having an enlarged heart, which means that his days of climbing and packing have ground to a halt, like mine.
Just when we were having fun, too.

We have a problem, Houston, Detroit, Chicago, and LA.
The elevator has been making obscene and disconcerting noises while running up and down for quite some time. I long feigned indifference, but knew it was only a matter of time before TROUBLE CAME AROUND. (F*#k you Andy Kaufman...where were you last night when it finally quit?)

STeve the Elevator Shaft Guy is my current hero after seeing him in action this afternoon.
Each drum holds 170' of five-eighths cable when new. Not sure of the lengths involved here.
Steve said they'd be done pretty quickly and on the road back to Vacaville this afternoon, job completed, service restored.
We had a lot in common and could have spoken for hours, but he had a job to finish.
