yesterday my wife treated
me to a sanwitch and
some acne pale ale at the heyday cafe.
she ordered a white ale and only
made a poor show of it
so i hadda finish it fer hor.
what she didn't know
though she prolly suspected,
i'd been out, prior,
on the railroad
tracks drinking with the bums
for some time,
and before that i'd been wearing
green labels on my gob
while (attempting) to chop bolts
at midway rock,
after all this she see's im fluid
so she tells me her mother's dryer died
and we should buy her one
on account of all the help she extends us,
wobbly on my game i consent
and this morning im looking
backward with regret.

One dry Martini, stirred with Absolute (yea, outta gin) and Cinzano extra dry.
A proper dry martini would be five parts gin drunk in front of a painting of Joseph Noilly

I am finishing up the remnants of a bottle of Carignane, a semi-obscure red wine varietal.
Here is your Dr. Piton Wine Snob Quiz of the Day:
identify the region in which this varietal Carignane originates, its other common name [that of its developer] and its most common use [which you will see is related to wines typical of the region]
You get extra points if you can do it without looking it up on line. [I sure couldn't, as I'd never heard of it before!]
This particular bottle is made by Cline in Contra Costa County up near Sonoma. It is rather zinfandel like to my palate, and scores four pitons on the Doc's wine snobbery scale.
Incidentally, my wine steward - Mike from Party Town in Florence Y'All, Kentucky - will be attending the El Cap Bridge at my invitation this spring towards the end of May, so be sure to speak with him if you get the chance.
And you get a free beer if you can explain what I mean by Florence Y'All.

This is probably the wrong answer, since I didn't look it up online. But The Oxford Companion to Wine says that it originated in the Aragon province of Spain.

Er, um ....
{Dr. Piton loosens the clothespin holding up the Superhero cape around his neck}
My, it seems to be getting a bit warm in here tonight.
It would, ahem, appear that I have mixed up my varietals. Oh well, so much for tonight's lesson. And I'm knott even drunk! Sheesh.
I can't remember the other damn one I was thinking about - geeeeeez. But as soon as I remember it, it'll be a great lesson, surely.

"Florence Y'All" is just a classic. I've seen it.
Also, I am now enjoying a fine Cointreua margaurita on a Friday night. Almost as fine as those served at El Matizlan in Cave City, KY. {I am totally unable to duplicate their mushroom quescadillas, however...)
I am "nursing" a somwhat sore right knee after a less-than-brilliant landing on a canyon jump caving in KY. 7 days since the landing. Ace bandage applied today. The best remedy thus far was the 3 hours of direct sunlight on my deck today. Any ideas on how to get it back in shape? It just twinged when I landed across the canyon. Not a huge problem.
