Record heat grips Australia killing thousands of animals
While the US is stricken by freezing cold, Australia is suffering a record heat with temperatures approaching 50C (122F) in some parts of the country and leaving thousands of animals dead.
A wave of stifling heat started began around Christmas and continues to move counterclockwise across Australia's north and into the south. The latest scorcher comes on the heel of Australia’s hottest year on record.
High temperatures are now shifting into Western Australia, with large areas being “under extreme heatwave to severe heatwave.”
"Certainly looking at the forecast over the next week, it's looking like that heat is going to continue," Karly Braganza of the Bureau of Meteorology has told the AP.
Already in January, 10 heatwave conditions are expected to expand eastwards and reach parts of South Australia.
Since December 27, temperature records have been set at 34 locations across Australia, according to the Bureau.

NWO2 likes that screaming image of Karl Marx with a Nazi death-camp Star of David on his coat. He's posted it a number of times. Why the Supertopo community tolerates such a poster I don't know.

"Where they take out the natural variability of .......... the remaining temperature anomaly is" . Now come on professor, we dont live in that artificial construct where all natural variability, both knownand unknown and of values you scientists might well have wrong, Is fully known and quantified beyond a shadow of doubt , then magically removed,do we? We live on Earth not in one of the blessed computer models. Please spare us further carpet bombing exposure to Chiloes simplistic model whereby he uses questionable values for all the components to arrive with a good fit to observations. He could have used any natural variability including the pattern of thrown chicken bones to arrive at his fit.

Norton, if you think it's somehow significant to anything that you can look at the entire globe and notice that it's unusually warm one place and cool another place, then . . .
Congrats, you're the perfect GW patsy.
But unfortunately for the professional warmists, the public at large (not exactly known for being the deepest of thinkers) has more-or-less figured out their game, and has moved on or at least is in the process of doing so.

Larry can you please join Bruce in his proud declaration of being a communist, after only 23, 000 posts of denial. Just about everything you write comes from a fantasy world, Rick. It's kind of amazing to watch. This week you declare I'm a communist, last week it was Taliban, last month it was too motivated by money. Lots of hate from you with no basis beyond the cartoons in your head.

What do you guys think of this? http://www.livescience.com/42435-slowdown-in-global-warming-a-mirage.html
Seems to be built from this paper: Cowan and Way.2014?. Coverage Bias in the HadCRUT4 Temperature Series and its Impact on Recent Temperature Trends. Quart. Journ. Royal Meter. Soc. Cowtan and Way (2013) is an interesting paper, Jeremy. It's been discussed intermittently upthread, such as here or here. Basically they show that one of the main surface temperature indexes (and really, all of them) have been under-representing temperatures in some fast-warming places, notably the Arctic. At the same time the classical indexes have over-represented change in parts of the world heavily influenced by El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO). So far their methods and results seem to have stood up well to criticism. If they're right that fills in another piece of the puzzle.
The next generation of temperature indexes could be at least somewhat better, although I don't know whether the Cowtan & Way method is simple enough, and it's probably not well enough validated yet, to get incorporated. Right now GISTEMP has more accurate Arctic coverage, and HadCRUt has accurate sea surface temperatures, which GISTEMP should eventually include.

They are not mutually exclusive Larry. Uncle Joe Stalin ,his trusted subordinates that aided his rise, and the scientists ignoring reality to further his ideology, lived in wealth while overseeing the destruction of the russian culture (talibanesque) while impoverishing the masses.

They are not mutually exclusive In your mind many things blur together, Rick. I'm sure there are rich Taliban just as there was a rich Stalin. I am neither rich nor Taliban nor Stalin. And I'm pretty sure they aren't the same either, for example the Taliban aren't atheists.
But that's not seeing the forest through the trees, Rick. My larger point is that you are fundamentally dishonest in flinging about false accusations, which all of these (that I'm communist, a Taliban, or doing research out of greed) are.

I see. Chloe is the new hall monitor. The content Nazi. Here to keep us on track and discourage anyone from posting content he deems lacking.
Sadly, posters who usually take on this role are humorless little shits. Especially when joke is at their expense or that of their sacred cow. This is right up Chloe's alley.
Chloe - I'm sorry you're having such difficulty my earlier post. It must suck being that guy who just doesn't get it.
Now you're 0 for 3.
Three responses to my post asking what thoughts might lie behind that one post of yours. You not only haven't tried to answer, you've reverted to your first trick on this thread, excrement-themed name calling.
I noticed that later in this thread you had graduated to genital-themed name calling, kind of a Freudian progression. Either way, you make clear what kind of person you are.
And here for a third time is the post Sketch made but can't find any words to explain.
In other words, we haven't experienced the anticipated warming because of...wait for it...Natural forcings!!!!

Wow. You're quite the crybaby, today.
On the occasions I've tried to have a civil exchange with you, you've ignored my posts. Instead, the only time I hear from you, you're being a snarky assh0le.
Go ahead and posture like you're not resorting the kind of childish tactics that dominate this post. It adds to the comedy. I'm not crying and you're now 0 for 4. All I asked is for you to explain the idea behind your post. In 4 replies now you haven't been able to do that but resorted quickly to name-calling as cover. Of course that behavior earns snark.

You do realize there's a difference between choosing to not answer your question and being unable to answer it, right? 0 for 5. That one would not work on an elementary-school teacher. Actually none of them would.

This is turning into a slightly more polite (and much less visually obtrusive) version of Jebus's photobombing campaign and The Chief's retaliation from yesterday

Thanks for the links in the thread, Chiloe. I'm not a climatologist but this topic interests me, and its hard to filter nearly 23,000 posts, to try and get some data...other than Dingus is a hypocrite, The Chief is a fuktard, and you're now a commie...did I get those right? Sorry if I left anyone out ;) Well, I'm a commie this week, last week it was Taliban, and before that it was greedy.
Interesting topic, I appreciate your defenses of the data you post, and the links. Happy to answer questions if I can. There are others on this thread who do likewise, it's a cool resource for ST if you can read around all that noise.

This seems a good juncture to express appreciation to everyone who has posted links to actual publications, and anything objective about the actual science. I have learned a lot! Having had a professor in college present, in all seriousness, a couple of lectures to the effect that the "theory" that the continents have moved around all over the place was not proven, while at the same time in another class we were getting the geomagnetic data showing the actual rates of Atlantic sea floor spreading, I learned long ago not to take any expert pronouncements as definitive unless I could read the actual papers it was based on, look at the graphs, be sure they fit data that is reviewable, and so on. So this thread has been very useful to me.

No Jeremy, you are not COMPLETE liberal fuktard, rather a somewhat biased voice of reason. TLP on the other hand seems to like to staddle the fence askew, from side to side, and gently slap down any skeptics who try to climb the fence to greet him.If i was conspiratorially minded i would say he reminds me of our dear professor, Dr. Hartouni's alter ego, the one still adhering to old school ethics of science. Larry, wouldn't admit to being a commie when asked to do so, so one must assume by his lack of admission that he doesn't identify himself in that camp or the larger camp of american scientists that have identified the CAGW gravy train and climbed all aboard.Have you seen the peice in Nature acknowledging the PAUSE and theorizing over it's cause?

And Jeremy, perhaps you should go to climatedepot.com and read the article about former warmist scientist Judith Curry's testimony before the U.S. senate today. There is a link in the article to her full testimony.

No Ed, i don't believe that there are more complicated models that would work. There are simply to many interacting, reinforcing, or cancelling mechanism's, some known some unknown , going on for a human constructed computation to solve then spew forth as reliable predictions. It's like i said at the beginning of this argument 15,000 posts ago; if we had perfect and universal knowledge the quote " Let their be light, then their was light" would apply. The human race, nor any other component species inside this system known as the universe will ever reach that level. Uncertainty prevails in the natural order of things.
