Speaking of cool, what are your thoughts on the lack of warming over the last 15 years?
I believe this as been addressed above--the oceans have taken most of the heat over the past 15 years. But why bother explaining that, again.

A scientist may be more likely than a denientist to know that the heat capacity of the oceans and ice caps is far higher than that of the atmosphere.

Please tell us why they, the oceans, suddenly decided to do so where you state that they did not play a factor the prior 28 years of steady increase.
Oh they'll come up with another doozy for that one, don't you worry.
I'm still chuckling over Chiloe's explanation for record cold weather being further proof of global warming, as that cold air had to come from someplace else, and just think how much warmer it must be there!
Splater--sure, makes sense to me, but did that heat capacity somehow change in the past 15 years or so?
Actually there may a good reason for it, I don't know, but it is interesting how mainstream, popular accounts do all seem to say "it's the oceans", without addressing Chief's point (why wasn't it the oceans in the past, and why didn't the oh-so-smart modelers take into account the oceans in their beloved models?
And what's going be the next excuse for the world not ending?
Edit--The Chief beat me to it.
And must say that I do not necessarily agree with The Chief's view of global warming or anything else, but he at least occasionally sticks it to the stuffed shirts here.

Of course the oceans are taken into account in the models. But 30-40 years ago the models were not as good. And of course the oceans were affected then, even if it was not easily measurable or given a lot of press. Additionally there were other temporary effects along the way such as the early 70s cooling, volcanoes, etc. Now the models are more capable of non-linear time and location changes, but those will always be less accurate than the long term trend.

Reality??
How about this:
2013 Already Among 10 Warmest Years On Record: Report
http://www.weather.com/news/science/environment/2013-already-among-10-warmest-years-record-report-20131113
Warmer temperatures were most extreme in Australia in 2013, the report notes, in contrast with 2012 when the United States experienced much of the world's record high annual temperatures.
Temperatures this year are in line with the trend since 2000, said WMO Secretary-General Michael Jarraud, adding that the 2000 to 2010 period was the warmest decade on record so far.
"All of the warmest years have been since 1998 and this year once again continues the underlying, long-term trend," he added. "The coldest years now are warmer than the hottest years before 1998."
Yes The Chief, you continue to be as ignorant as a box of bait.

"All of the warmest years have been since 1998 and this year once again continues the underlying, long-term trend," he added. "The coldest years now are warmer than the hottest years before 1998."
OK, let me get this straight.
. Fifteen years is a significant length of time for us to draw conclusions about climate change, as shown by the above quote's focus on 1998 (about 15 years ago).
. The surface temperatures haven't increased in the past 15 years (although it is true that they are staying at the new elevated level), which apparently reached some sort of tipping point in 1998.
. Temperatures in the ocean keep going up (and more ice is still melting? I seem to get conflicting reports on that one).
All very interesting (no sarcasm intended). If all the above is true -- and I think it's a fair representation of the mainstream view, as reported in the popular press -- not sure why some of you are so hard on The Chief and any other skeptic, it is quite a surprising set of "facts."

Norton--the photobombing was started by the guy who calls himself "Jebus."
I have no idea why--seemed to be the start of some sort of meltdown.
Rightly or wrongly, the Chief then retaliated with his own photobombing, and they battled back and forth, with the photobombing settling on a derogatory cartoon of the Chief (from "Jebus") and a funny picture of a wasted guy, presumably Jebus or at least meant to represent Jebus (from the Chief).
I thought the Chief actually "won," and commented on that, but that brought forth more photobombing by Jebus, so I don't know if the photobombing has ended, or if we're just in a lull, or what.
Ron apparently reported "Jebus" to CMac, although it isn't clear that Ron really reports people to CMac or just threatens to (and takes "credit" when they get banned, even if that's unrelated to anything Ron did or didn't do).
I have never reported anyone to CMac, but the thought crossed my mind on this one, especially since the photobombing appeared to be unprovoked. Not that I have any idea if CMac would care or would do anything.
