It's a slice of Merced life that harks back, way back, to when bars and pawns and sleaze of that sort crowded the downtown on Seventeenth St. from Sixteenth St., which is Business 99, aka the old Front St., fronting the Railroad. It was skid row and a few streets like M through J, had a bad reputation.
As it is, the place Gabe runs is home to a few odd mechanics, farmers and cool people from the downtown scene, like the owner of the Partisan Bar, and my friend Andy from Coffee Bandits and the like. It has the appeal of tiny and intimate and not a hint of Starbuckism.
You should know some Ponderosa lore, just to show Gabe your heart's in the right spot. Candy, the foreman, is the only cast member still kicking...
Bob Fuller never appeared on the show. In fact, children, and neebee,
Patrick Kelly called Fuller to his office in 1959 to offer the young actor an opportunity for a co-starring role opposite Academy Award-winner Ray Milland, in the 1950s detective series, Markham. However, Fuller quickly turned down the role because he wanted to be in westerns. He was David Dortort's second choice for the role of Lorne Greene's youngest son, cocky, impish Little Joe Cartwright on Bonanza, only he lost the role to another young, unfamiliar actor, Michael Landon.
Right around the same time, Fuller landed the co-starring role of Jess Harper on the NBC series Laramie, which ran from 1959 to 1963, opposite another of his best friends, John Smith, Hoagy Carmichael, child actor Robert L. Crawford, Jr., Stuart Randall, and later with another child actor, Dennis Holmes, and veteran actress Spring Byington. Fuller was asked to do a screen test for the character of Slim Sherman, and John Smith had originally been cast as Jess Harper. Fuller insisted he would be better cast as Harper, and after the screen test he won the role of Jess, while Smith got the part of Slim. The show was eventually aired in more than seventy countries.

thanks for the fun share!
yes, my twin buddies and me,have gone to see robert, quite a few times,back
when i had job.. they paid most of the trip and i paid them back each month, for hotel, etc...
we've always had a special meeting room where us an some other fans of his
work, get to hear all kind of neat stories!
we have had supper with him, too, and james drury and his wife, were there once eve, as well.. they are all very gracious with us all...
the phenomen(?) of how thousands turned out to see him in japan,
was really something... he shared that story, afer we asked him--japan even invited him back later... he said the turnout was like nothing
he'd ever could have been ready for--he was honored guest by japan...
the emporor and his wife, invited him... he was given a huge tour
beyond anything he'd have thought...
we always enjoy seeing him, at western festivals, and his wife, when she is there, too...
friends saw him in kanabe, but it was too complex a place to get to, to share my buddies' ride, so i missed out...

ohh, at festivals, questions and answer times, he is always asked to share how he turned down laramie, at first, since slim, didn't feel like the 'right part' for him... they asked him to come back, after that, and read for the part of jess... (which is what lead to the japan wave of fans)
jack webb, also, was nearly turned down, when jack webb wanted robert to
do 'EMERGENCY' (robert said, he'd not play a doctor) but as he said in his story of how this came to pass: you just can't turn down jack webb--he get's what he wants, and he wanted robert... (a whole newer generations, learned of his work, fresh this way, and not as to reruns of laramie, and wagon train)
(was good for us, too, as, i met another of my best friends at a festival--westner one--who NEVER would have known of robert's work, if she had not see it, on emergency, :)) so thus, she went to meet him, and met us, too, meaning, me and the twins) ...
god was definately at work, in all this!!!!
actaully, that first trip i ever took to meet him, was when i met my twin buddies, they are now my best friends, and three others, that i met, later, too.. was very special, gift from god...

did not stay long through the series... it was said he
prefered being on the golf-course, :))

went to the climber's fest, in fall...
'twas the most wonderful thing, that they could recall...
far better than an inner-walled mall...
course, this is make-believe, this story, so tall...
but if they' be here still, i'd reckon, to you all...
that most likely they'd agree, as, honest as an ol' tree gall...
that the greatoutdoors, and interesting climbers, that upwards crawl...
REALLY DO take first place, over man-made-shopping-buidlings, and
any on-sale hype or talking-drawl...
okay, back to work, for me...

I can't math much, either. I thought I didn't thee the fifth puddy tat in thees photo unteel my friend George pointed out the last pair of eyes on the right. Names, please?
The three amigo rats are George's: Chopper, Master Splinter, and Houdini. George's cats fear the rats, and rightly so.
There is a fourth rat, a female, named STrawberry, who greatly despises the attentions of the males. But she's nice to people and George's daughter, Anita, especially.
Half of one of George's cat's claw and toe are gone, Chopper's doing. George has a snake, named Bo Jackson. The rats were intended as snake food, but they aren't breeding, so they are just burdens. I mean pets.
I can just imagine the tales of neebee's menagerie. At outside, Liz and I and Scott only had five cats and one dog at one time.
My favorite pets: Tigger the Cat, number two. George the Weather Loach from Berkeley.
Tig found his way back to the house several months after he took off in the bed of a neighbor's pick-up truck. George hid himself in the gravel of the aquarium for several weeks at a time and grew almost an inch on his emergence the first time he did so. He kept this behavior up, but didn't grow longer, only fatter. STrange fish.

yeah, stories,oh my... just silly little things, though, as, these ARE indoor crittes, so there is only so much they can do...
we DO place a non-musical type of musical chair... well:
rooms...
rotation, ;)
they can't all play nice together, :O
so at certain times:
cats to mudroom, dog to kennel under the ol' supper table, and:
parakeet OUT and SIMPLY FUNNY... too...
parakeet is 'season'...
rabbit is 'simply funny'...
dog is 'patty ann marie'...
cats are, in oder of recent pic you found:
dotty mancha (white, her black forehead spot faded/grew white hair)...
harper tyler mercy (long story, as to name)...
samson julius (not after san jose's orange julius drinks, downtown)...
bobby bob (pre-adoption loss of tail, or born that way)...
ursula ma-foi, back in the corner (another story) (however she doesssssss kind of have ursu feet, though that's another story) :))
here is simply funny... he is NOT afraid of height, apparently
he IS a climber...
seems patty ann marie will climb into bed, or onto sofas...
though she IS afraid of heights... well, at times...
the ol' parakeet, woud rather fly, than climb...
but he likes music, so he'd like gypsy's show...

SHE is into ground surveying, but she loves climbing and heights, as well...
she's a real rat, when it comes to crawling... :)

well, got get the flames started in the ol' painting-spirit...
left this on, to check email, and i seem to have turned onto the ol'
supertopo trail.... and took conversing, into of commenting on
climbing threads, :))
well, that is what flames are for:
for to spark ispriation in folks, as to:
the past, present, or future,
so they WILLL FEEL MORE LIKE climbing... :)
inspiratons, do to being happy with history, or art, or critter, or music stimulation, as well as greatoutdooors on this thread...
or stimulation, as to not wanting to be stuck here, after reading all this here stuff.. on a nice climbing day...

Tonight was special: At the MCAC, Hamlet, the tragedy, soaked in red, while out in the Arbor Gallery the artists selling their wares there spoke to us in red tones through their work.
Here is the water-colorist, Helen Swickard, and her daughter Carole, who makes and sells her jewelry in the Gallery alongside Helen's paintings. I met Carole just tonight, Helen I met a few months ago.
Here is Helen's latest, the Yosemite Chapel and another painting of a child and a rabbit.
There is a mix here of shots from the play tonight, its rehearsal from a few nights back, and The Red Show on display in the Gallery.
