You'll observe the notification @ the County Fair, which gives us a color theme.
The woman in attendance at the Arbor Gallery told me that their exhibit colors were red, blue, and white, not yellow. It was a lead-in to the Fair's Veterans theme.
Doh!
It's good to know the new high school's almost done, even though it may seem we don't need it, right yet. We will be glad to have it soon enough.
Thank you, Evel.
Ditto, Marlow.

hey there say, mouse.... wow, this is a very speicial share here...
i am going to see if there is an article to seee about this train accident, :(
wondering if the art was done way back then, or added later...
there is beautiful artwork on it... i wonder how many folks daily,
ever stop and wonder, (those that have never seen, the bridge, before) even some locals, about the history of this...
thanks for the road trip NOW that i can see the pictures...
some have not showed yet... the close up of the woodpecker/flicker
feeding babe, i think, is the last one that i can see... so far...
will be back...later...

neebee, the tile and all the art work is the project of this lady, Monika Modest, who also is responsible for the tile display at Bob Hart Square in downtown, from the earlier tour around Christmas. This project was only possible with great patience shown by commuters, who were forced to crowd into the other arteries. Oh, and the Feds and RR helped.
It was gratifying that last night I mentioned on Facebook that the image of the Merced Courthouse on the south side "gallery" is getting caked with deposits and the former chief of police saw the comment, and then took it to the city council for fixing last night. Boom! Problem taken care of!

hey there say, mouse....
and all...
i FOUND a link, as to the building of the bridge, and all the tech stuff to drain the area, surveylance for to protect art from vandals...
some of the artists mentioned, a survivor, and a few more interesting
notes on the opening ceremony...
http://www.mercedsunstar.com/2011/11/30/2140292/public-invited-to-array-of-opening.html
will put some of the bits in quotes in just a few minutes:
wow! as to this:
The underpass is the largest road project in the city’s history. It involved the complete reconstruction of the railroad crossing, the installation of 45 pilings to hold the bridge and the construction of a massive storm water drainage system. In addition, the project involved rerouting sewer and water lines, along with moving natural gas lines and power poles. The completion of this project means that Central and North Merced residents can move without having to stop for train traffic. Before the underpass, police, fire and other public safety vehicles in Merced spend up to two hours each day delayed by the trains. The City can have up to 42 trains a day cutting through town. The only overhead crossing for the BNSF railroad in the city is the two-lane Bradley Overhead on the edge of town that is more that is more 70 years old and gets closed in the winter when roads are too frosty or icy. (It is now being rebuilt) The next nearest crossing is 10 miles away. The $18 million project is funded by: California Transportation Commission $9 million Merced Redevelopment Agency $4.8 million City Public Facility Financing (Impact fees) $2.3 million Burlington Northern & Santa Fe RR $1.9 million In addition, the city spent another $2.4 million for improvements in the project area, including a $1.1 million water line replacement. No general fund money was used in the project and the funds could not be used to pay for personnel such as police or fire personnel.
note: there is an area in south texas, next door to where i used to live: train would shut off half of the town from reaching our area, for 20 min stretches, upon more 20 min stretches, etc... safe thing, was, though, you could see it coming for manyyyyyyy blocks down the road...
the article starts this way:
i went from back-end finance, to front, :)
un-Star staff (news share was nov 2011)
The city of Merced said the public is invited to tour the G Street Underpass before the formal dedication ceremony at noon, Saturday, Dec. 3. The road will be open to pedestrians at 11 a.m. so that people can see the modern marvels normally hidden from view. Later in the day Mayor Bill Spriggs and former Mayor Ellie Wooten will ride in the vehicle that will be the first car to drive under the underpass. Local students will be involved in a ribbon cutting for the sidewalks that lead to an elementary school and a middle school. Staff and contractors will be on hand to show the huge storm water pumps that would drain the underpass in case of a heavy rain, explain the network of pipes buried below the asphalt and the electrical system that provides all the power. Artists Kristan Robinson and Monika Modest will be at the underpass to discuss their artworks that will be decorating the underpass walls and City staff will also be available to discuss the surveillance cameras that protect the art, and other features, from vandals. There also will be information tables on Neighborhood Watch, recycling, crime prevention, fire safety, transportation available during the event. The road project has its roots in a tragedy occurring almost 80 years ago. It was at the intersection of G Street and the then Santa Fe railroad tracks that a school bus coming from Fremont School was struck by a train. Seven students were killed and another 23 were injured. The tragedy on May 7, 1931 helped lead to the legislation that requires all occupied buses to stop at railroad crossings. One of the survivors of the accident will be on hand for the undercrossing dedication. G Street has been closed for the last 18 months for construction of an underpass at the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe tracks.
wow, last part of article, talk about TREES, :)
The project had a “finished” look earlier than expected when the paving schedule was moved up to October to beat the early winter storm that dumped an inch of rain on the city. Staff estimates work would have been delayed at least three to four weeks to dry everything out if the asphalt had not been laid prior to the storm’s arrival. Even after G Street is opened, additional work will need to be done, including installing an emergency generator, pouring concrete near the car wash and finish planting the 6,000 bushes and 200 trees that will decorate the project.
* wow, looks like they got done, just in time, without weather damage
edit:
wow, thanks mouse... i DID see her name on the article, and now i know
that she is teh TILE artist... wow, thanks....
neat new share, of yours, by the way, :)
more than 'by the way' now...

Gypsy--
I saw your beech tree from Biltmore.
Here's a Quercus suber from Courthouse Park.
Cork is hypdrophobic. It's why it works. It's the most environmentally friendly bottle-stopper, too.
I don't know what this little guy sees in them. He thinks they are the Supermarket, probably.
Merced is a "Tree City" as proclaimed by the flag in the Square. Here's a page I found which may encourage you to put a cork in your space.

I'm so glad to be able to dance and boogie-woogie, even in the spastic style I've adopted from this terpsichorean genius, Elaine Travolta.

It's been a loooooong day. But it was a Tony the Tiger day: Grrrrrrrrrreat!
I didn't quite make it to the River Hamble (Southampton), but I bade good day to Joleen and Heike at the Hamlet rehearsal, among many other things.
It's late and I need to sort things out, fix some pix, and enjoy the meal I just had.
A demain and it's great to see you all in good spirits.
Find me some Musically Migratory route to Rio de Februario, Okay?
Reilly, a topless '63? I love the whitewalls.
Cosmic, it's probably just me, but you remind me of Kim Simmonds, no sh#t. It must be soul.

And the very next day the Merced Sun-Star's picking up on what I'm laying down. And the problem with the leakage at the G St. undercrossing has been referred to the City Manager by Big Tony D. It was brought to my attention this evening by a phone call from a friend, Marcel Simon, who saw the crew at work this morning on one side of the bridge. It's gratifying to know someone cared.
And today, like neebee says, it's energy to burn one day, one time of day, and another day, it's an all-nighter. It's one way.
I felt all energized after talking to Lenna, who called just after I posted last...
So here's a taste of what's to come from today's walk.
Manana.

You use the duck and anything else that suits you and the same for anyone else. This forum's a gold mine and sometimes the treasure's in your head, sometimes it's only of value to the poster.
My adventures with the camerea here are setting me up for the ones I want to have In The Mountains, On The Crags, etc. It's that learning curve I spoke of earlier.
As to the braind-teachery you mentioned, neebee, my brain's getting taught to respond to photo opps and do it efficiently and with confidence and stealth, if need be. I am sure you can relate, as well, Gypsy and zBrown--you are both real good at the picture-taking stuff, to say the least.
I find cats are excellent targets on these walks, and birds are just where you find them. It's also non-foliage time and seeing things through a screen of branches is better than having them hidden by leaves. The birds aren't really here as the season's still early. Lots of early buds out now, too.
I'm hoping to repeat an adventure I had with the Rev two years ago last spring, when we drove out to the middle of the San Joaquin and were treated to the use of a viewing platform some twenty-five feet above the surrounding terrain. So we saw thousands and thousands of migrant waterfowl like snow geese and otheres from that spot. This was the result of purest happenstance, uh, God's wanting us to see the display. :)
And as far as IDing birds, well, I'm so new I thought that was a mallard, but you say wood duck. Good call.
