Did not know the man, but these pages attest to the spirit he obviously had and the impact he made on so many.

When our time comes, and it surly will, may we all be filled with the love that so obviously surrounded this friend and comrade.

Peace, love, and understanding
To all Blitzo's family.

I woke up around 3 am(MT)and could not go back to sleep. Blitzo and his friends have been on my mind so much these past few weeks. I'm glad I got to meet him and hang out a bit at Todd's, sorry we did not get to climb together.

RIP man, you were one of a kind.

met Blitzo at Bridfest, knew instantly that he was the guy to party with, something about his spirit that was very unique, calm, peaceful, funny, knowing,
trying to stay off the beer til i get my sh#t together but today i am going to break that policy have an Alaskan IPA for reasons that need that not be explained,
i wish peace to all of his friends and don't be sad, but happy for the time you got to spend with him, when you lose someone, a little of them is instilled in you, so Blitzo will live on forever, Cheers Blitzo!

I was heading to a yoga festival in 2009 (shortly after Ms. Summit passed) and spent a few days at the old Fish Palace. Knowing Blitzo was hanging out and knowing of his love to try new beers I decided to pick up a few he might never have tried.

Funny part of the story is after I posted this photo with the names of all of beer locker proclaimed that he was sure blitzo had tried all of them. Turns out there was probably a dozen he had never seen before. Mission accomplished for me - turning blitzo onto new beer.

Before I headed out on that trip I asked Medium Sooze about making me a matt bag for me. I still use it to this day.

Lifting a Imperial Java Stout from Santa Fe Brewing company (had this one, blitzo?)...

... rest in peace my friend. And go take a little walk over to the rainbow bridge.... Jake and ms. summit might like to say hello...

I did not know Blitzo but was aware of his great photography. I am aware of much more about him now, his community, and his friends.

This all somehow reminds me of a story told by a very famous 19th century man, whose name escapes me now-- a man of wide accomplishments and even international repute.
This famous man had a sister, older than himself , who passed away and whose funeral loomed.
The celebrated man really knew very little about his sister, there being a great difference in their ages. He thought of her as a very ordinary sort, with a few friends, and a small family. Her reputation being small and not noteworthy--unlike his own.

As the day of her funeral arrived ,our famous man made his way to the small community where his sister had lived and passed. To his astonishment he found the roads thronged with literally thousands of people. He had no idea as to why there would be such an enormous crowd come to this small ,obscure town. Rich, poor, old, young--of every station in life.

He began to inquire, and soon he discovered, to his further astonishment , these assembled multitudes were there to pay their respects to a fine lady all had cherished and deeply respected ,for their own individual reasons. Some had been nursed to health by this woman, others midwifed on a stormy night--still others simply comforted by a good story, companionship , and a cup of tea during a troubled passage.

This lady was none other than our famous man's sister. And as he stood reflecting on the sudden smallness of his own life he could not help but contemplate the lesson afforded by the love and admiration shown on the faces of all those people touched in thousands of unknown ways by his sister's remarkable and incredible life.

RIP Bill

We swam in the same social eddies but somehow a confluence of time and place never materialized.

To Russ, Sooze and all his caregivers, you bless your karma with acts of kindness and compassion.

I've lost 6 friends and acquaintances to cancer this past year and they were all in the same age cohort 60-65. I'm not sure what exactly that means except for the odds keep creeping in against us.

sorry to say, i never personally met the man. but, i have a feeling that for a long time on down the road, whenever i click on a thread here on ST with some of you dear friends of his on it, the first thing i'm gonna think about is him. RIP, Billy!

the grass withers,
and the flowers fade,
but memories of billy,
will live on for eVah!

edit: ^ my variation of a bible verse (excuse me, but its just the way i'm feeling about billy, and a few of my lost loved ones, at the moment).

Bill, Rest in peace you fought the good fight, now it's time to rest.

Condolences to all his friends and especially those wonderful caregivers. We all know how difficult it is for those who care for a loved one at their passing. You can be proud the way you cared for him.

I didn't know him personally, except that we exchanged emails about his time climbing with Warren Harding.

His photography will be a wonderful legacy.

Now Blitso and Batso can be reunited again around the campfire, tell their stories and share a libation or two.

Although our paths have not crossed in decades I still have vivid memories of Bill. He was the life of the party and I know he would want it to continue. Tilt one in his honor. Rest in peace Bill Serniuk.

I've always been a bit envious of the life you've lived - the freedom, the adventures, the crazy times. Our pasts couldn't have been more different; but we were always cool, you and I. Always able to relate, always able to chill and share laughs. You were one of the first people I met when starting to hang out in JT, and where part of the fabric that ultimately led me to call this place home. It's been an honor sharing laughs, ends of the rope, beers, and goodbyes. It was also an honor to have been there when the famous "dancing" photo was taken. Haha! There will always be some space in the blue cooler for your brews! Rest easy my friend. See you again some day.
