Don't think this super pic of John and son, Tyrus has made it on the thread yet. Still missing Gentleman John so very! Someday I hope to have the nads to share a funny story about just why I call him G.J. It's hilarious and John truly is and remains....a Gentleman. lynne

Sunday night John's Dad and Family hosted a nice wine/appetizer evening while we set up tables, chairs, prayer flags and all the rest of the stuff. It was very healing to get to share love and stories while putting everything together under Paola's excellent direction. Love you P. :D

One of JB's favorite places....

Along with Paola, his kindred spirit and love of his life. Heart and tears and hugs still with you beautiful lady.

Kelly and Ron Gomez made it happen with grace and ease. Thanks guys for all the planning, co-ordination and effort.

The memorial brought out some thoughts and lessons for me that I think are best addressed on another thread, but I wanted to link it here

It was a humbling experience to be in such distinguished company honoring John Bachar. Reflecting on times of yesteryear looking into the eyes of individuals I hadn’t seen in 40 years or more was simply amazing. In comparison of the many gathered to pay tribute I have nothing of any extraordinary accomplishment in the mountains other than consistency of witness season after season; a witness to lives woven together in a fabric of experience that has been played out in some of the most beautiful places on the planet.

The question of what has been accomplished in all the toil will be continually debated for generations to come. I would say at this point in my life as a climber/skier the loving friendships and the camaraderie we feel as a tribe is what I cherish most. The outpouring of positive energy released by the passing of John Bachar is evidence enough that our partners in pursuit is what has made it all so worthwhile.

I hope for Johns’ family and his many great friends peace in knowing his energy and spirit has lifted us all to a greater level of appreciation. Our dear friend Paola, you have such grace. We love you and are here moving forward in support to live well, love much and let go.

Poignant moments....Paola looked so beautiful. Her dress made her eyes look so beautifully green. She said it was John's favorite. Peace tonight Paola and may your thoughts be mixed with a closeness together still, tho you are on two different planes.

Dudes heart to the fallen. Expression says it all. And we do all grieve. Yes we do, big time.

Lynn Hill .... what an awesome human being. Lynn stepped up and said to Acopa at the Memorial that she would help them be a name. Sweet Gal. You will be supported! Lynn also told all those at the Memorial that on the first free ascent of the Nose it was JB that gave her the battle cry, "It goes Boys". Sweet !!! Dan Boy spoke nada but Good about Lynn Hill.

Thanks Lynn, and Peace to you and your son.

Rob Raker....my hub's climbing partner and my daughter Leah Leichtfuss/Edge. JB, even in passin' through does his magic and brings people together. Leah was age 11 when Rob climbed with the family last. :DD

So John Amigo, Dude, Friend....sheee I miss yo Bro. Aunt Lucy said it best in that yo Dude are jess passin' through to the best, the heavenlies. (I be up there soon enough so don't knock DL out til I can witness that scene !!! hehehe. Lovin' Ya and Peace....lynnie

Thanks JL, for your post. I was only ever peripherally connected to the CA/Stonemaster scene, but this event proved to me forever that our tribe is large, and transcends geography, time and social constructs. A fitting tribute to John Bachar, who elevated all of us by his example. In whatever realm he chooses, Tyrus seems ready to carry the torch.

Ken Yeager in the orange shirt with his back to us, Karl Baba in the white and black shirt next to Ken Yeager, Jonny Woodward is in the black shirt at the table with Ken Yeager all in the first photo. Steve West's beautiful girlfriend in the last photo is in the black top. Lynnes photos.

Hello All

I want to thank all the people I met at John Bachar's Memorial.
I loved the great vibes, the sense of community, and how welcome I felt. I have heard the term "tribe" to describe this wonderful group of people. It is.

Here are some pictures. Forgive my lack of name recall and please fill in the blanks.

The impression you made on me Mr. I will never forget.

Just curious, but what's the story behind the sax player statuette above? A memorial?

edit: if so, it is very cool.

If it is, it's very fitting.
John loved those sounds.
I, too, missed the gathering, but I was thinking of John, sitting on my ledge in the Sawtooths.

What a great loss to the climbing community and for John's son Tyrus and John's family. I couldn't imagine having to live and have any of my children pass on before me. My brother just went through that.
Just looking at the photo's of the memorial you could feel the emotions and the awe of such a loss.
Its good to see the ol climbing "tribe" in one place, its to bad it was for such a sad reason. Even the "kid" showed up and your no longer a kid Kurt.
What a tremendous show of the community coming together for Bachar and his family.

So then we have our Jtree friend, Al Dude, and a Mammoth local whose name I knew and forget. Sorry !! Check out the "goggles". Mammoth Dude made them by himself. They are cool, soft and sweet leather with tooling. Nice !!! Peace Dude from lynne

Borrowed the handmade goggles so my fans could take pics. Shee, bitd I would never post a photo like this. A Fool mixed with hilarity. But ya know John Bachar showed me don't take yo self seriously. One time lots of John's friends mailed pics of his legs and climbing out at Josh. They made fun of his skinny legs and were laughing. I mailed jb and said, "what up" these old fat dudes criticizing yo legs. He said, "they just be having fun...it's ok." He meant it. JB Loved yo all. Knew who he was and lived it to his best.

JB not only freed the rock....freed alot more for himself and us. So we can spend our days going for it .... in his name and his zen. lrl
