It's true that campground require all those reports and comment but the same is true for much of the paving and construction done in recent years.

the paving projects were mandated by the federal highways administration, the park had no say and provided no funding for the project outright.
just sayin...

I don't buy the *paving money is different money than operating money* line.
Cash is cash.
You can't cry about being broke, and having to double fees and double them again, and then blow insane ammounts of money on paving parking lots and posting high-dollar signs all over the place.
NPS HAS MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY, it's smart management that's in short supply.
All those new parking lots by Intersection could have doubled the size of Hidden Valley Campground, yet those resources were squandered on something that offers nothing new. We already had enough day-use parking next to Intersection. WE NEED MORE CAMPSITES.
How long does your precious *environmental impact report* take to complete? A couple decades? That's how long the demand for campsites has exceeded the supply.
Why haven't these studies been done? How much more time do you need?
How 'bout you run the place more like a business than a bureaucracy? You don't think The People who pay your salary deserve at least that much?

I could be wrong, but I doubt anyone ever visited Joshua Tree and said "I wish there were more signs here, a bunch more".
But EVERY WEEKEND afternoon someone drives through and says "I wish I could find just one campsite here, just one".

my precious, yes my precious....
Chaz go f*#k yourself, I never said that there shouldn't be more camping. What the hell more do you want from me, im a GS-5 park ranger, I'm the bottom of the barrel. I am doing what I can what about you?
"I don't buy the *paving money is different money than operating money* line."
your idiocy astounds me, the money never even went into or came out of an NPS account for the paving project. with a little research you'll find I'm right, and your wrong.
"I could be wrong, but I doubt anyone ever visited Joshua Tree and said "I wish there were more signs here, a bunch more"."
actually Chaz you are wrong, many people used to get pissed about the lack of signs in the park, the lack of street signs and interpretive signs.
"But EVERY WEEKEND afternoon someone drives through and says "I wish I could find just one campsite here, just one"."
really? wow this is breaking news to me.... how many times can you bitch about the same thing over and over again? I'm doing my part, STFU and do yours.

"khanom- how did you hear that the NPS knew about this thread? Have you seen the vandalism? "
hmmmm.....how DID they find out, rangers don’t EVER go to climbing websites.....
I didn’t say anything to the folks at JOTR as nothing illegal had been done, but I’d be willing to bet that at least one of the employees, climbs an awful lot, and probably checks this site out regularly.
(I know one that dosn't climb at all but checks this website, you know who you are!)
I really hope it wasnt somone here, that would be unfortunate.

I posted up a plain old honest report. The ruins there, which I have seen and hung out at many times, were completely altered in fake adobe style stucco.
If that is not vandalism, what is????
Now the park service rangers blame me, the op, for subsequent vandalism?
Mr. Ranger Man, here's your chance:

Got a beef with me?
Let's talk about it.
edit:
Khanom, I have no clue who you are, since you hide behind your avatar, but if you are trying to say that in a free society we should not criticize our government out of fear that they will assign further blame on us, you have it all wrong.
"Nice going?" you say?
You would prefer no one knew?
..... ??
Edeit #2: Steve the implication that someone on this site is a vandal, when the location in question is a stone's throw from a busy campground is just insulting.
I will stick my neck out here and declare that if there was vandalism after this thread began (there was vandalism there before, btw,) it was not climbers who did it. Period.

News Break: The vandalism appears to be the work of a certain group of stucco contractors! Although in another report, they claim it was legal and they were actually paid!
Who Paid Them? News at 6 O'Clock!!
