Jesus Christ on a crutch - she's a CREATIONIST!!! Against everything that science/logic tells us, she thinks that God created the world in 7 days, ~6000 years ago.

Yes, Matt, I know who he is and most conservatives don't consult the ideas of Buckley for advice in voting. We are capable of thinking for ourselves, believe it or not.
Who do you consult with for voting suggestions? Are you capable of forming your own opinions?

McCain, a maverick?
Bush, via Rove, slanders/libels McCain and slings mud at his family, and what does he do? He TOES the party line.
Doesn't sound like much of a maverick to me. More like an arse licker.

So after expecting to forfeit the election to the Dems so they will look bad dealing with the mess left by 8 years of Bush and Co., the Repubs find their fall guy catching up with Obama in the polls. Only one thing to do! Crazy!

I will now flabbergast skipt, and a few others, by admitting that I once had lunch with William F. Buckley. November 1979. He was in Vancouver to give a public talk at the university, and I was on the committee which invited him. (We had quite a variety of speakers - the idea, being that it was a university, was to stimulate debate and such.) As it happens, his wife was from Vancouver.
I didn't and don't agree with many of Buckley's views, but that's no reason to be uncivil.

"Palin is not just anti-choice, she’s opposed to abortion, even in cases of rape or incest. [Juneau Empire, “Abortion Draws Clear Divide in State Races,” accessed 8/29/08 and Anchorage Daily News, “Governor’s Race: Top contenders meet one last time to debate,” 11/03/06.] Palin is also a member of the anti-choice group Feminists for Life."
I don't see too many Hilary voters going along with that, It's hard to beleive that many "moderates" will agree either. So who was this pick for? All I can see is that McCain has secured his most fundemental base.
I am not the smartest guy when it comes to National politics, but this one has me really confused. Am I missing something? I thought McCain was courting the "middle" and Hilary's people. How does this benifit him?

Left the office when this thread was back on page two and happened to catch her acceptance speech. Way more impressive than Barrak Hussien Obama Jr.s.
This is the first time I've seen the middle age women in the office excited about anything political. They should be firmly in the Dems core demographic. Not anymore!
BHO Jr. Is in trouble. Nobody cares or remembers the platitudes he bloviated last night now. The lame attempts to counter her are going to cost him the soccer mom vote, Biden as attack dog has been emasculated.
Brilliant pick!
The Dems will continue to run against Bush and won't ever figure out that they are running against a candidate that will cast himself as a reformer in the TR mold (true or not remains to be seen) with a "Mrs. Smith goes to Washington" running mate.

Alright children settle down and read what I've come up with scanning sites from right to left including reader's comments: Dems will not be able to use the "inexperience" issue because Obama has less administrative experience than she does. You can spin that as you wish; truth be told, neither have much experience.
The female issue is important. Lois is right from what I've been reading here and there; gender triumphs party. I don't know how big this issue is, but it's big.
She's a member of the NRA, Alaskan big game hunter, athlete and tough administrator that smacks down opponents, she's in favor of drilling and feels Polar Bears are doing just fine.
She's religious and has five children, the last with down's Syndrome; she chose not to have an abortion.
She has a son in the military and soon to depart for the ME.
She's also been known since HS or college as( how quaint, and probably appropriate ) The Baracuda.
Much above you probably already know. It's my opinion that the Dems have a serious problem here; they better not underestimate her.
The Baracuda will appeal to a significant cross section of the American public. This is so much fun.

Going after Hillary voters is a red herring. McCain still needs to solidify his base since most of his base is still pissed off at McCain for siding with Dems from time to time. As Bush proved, you can win with only the base, you just have to win key states. At a minimum, he needs his base. When McCain was selected, the hard core conservative said they would even vote for Hillary if it came down to it. So, basically, it was a gesture to his base. Will it be enough?

It's a desperate move and clearly shows that they felt the RP had to make a "shock and awe" move to counter the DP convention.
Pure desperation.

I would categorize myself as a swing voter, though I've always been a Democrat.
I am still thinking of writing in McKinney, but I realize that it would be robbing the Dems of a vote. But I just don't like either Obama or McCain. But with McCain's choice for VP, it looks like my vote just swung to the Dems (and BTW, I would NEVER vote for McCain, I see Obama as the lesser of two evils).
Let The Show Begin (or continue actually).
Possible scenario
So the Repubs know that McCain will probably not go for a second term if he is elected. Are they grooming Palin to run in 2012?
I (and others) have already written the following: IMO opinion the POTUS job is a poison chalice for the next prez. The Bush/Cheney/Rove/etc chancers have left such a mess, that it will take a very good prez more than four years to clean it up. McCain can't do it, and Obama is questionable. I love the way he thinks he is going to change the world. A bit naive in my book.
Certainly not in four years. But then, a start is a start.

Yes, Jaybro, I know Dubya is a creationist too. I wonder if Palin got the same "higher call" to get into politics?
Does someone want to explain to me how the next 4 years would be different from the Bush years under these two Neocons?
