Not long ago I was I was talking to a brilliant, more or less liberal woman in the parking lot a liberal climbing gym in a liberal city in a liberal part of a largely redneck state. She was contemplating a pie in the sky Obama bumpersticker.

"People want him to be the next messiah. He's got my vote, but he's just another politician," she said.

He's got my vote too, but I have no illusions.

You support torture by supporting our current government. We have talked about this many times and yet you still haven't bothered to educate yourself. This is why both dirt and I figure you will not read the book. You have said you would read stuff in the past and you didn't. Your complacency allows this government to keep doing what it wants.

...............

You are arrogant because you lord your abundance over others, as though this is a sign that you are righteous. You try to use it as a way to make fun of those with less or who are suffering.

You attitude goes like this. "See, look at me. I have lots. I must be doing something right. while you, are suffering, so you must be wrong".

Rome looked great for a time.

How many times do you need to be told that McCain voted for torture?

Edit: Yes Locker, I am an idiot for arguing with Lois.

Completely. You have been told this many times. This is why people get frustrated with you.

McCain really does advocate torture, he says some time you have to. You'd think he'd have more empathy after what he's been through. That alone, disqualifies him as a serious candidate.

Paris Hilton's mom takes offense at McCain's humor
3 hours ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — Paris Hilton's mother doesn't share John McCain's sense of humor.
McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, said last week that his campaign ad mocking Democrat Barack Obama with images of Hilton and singer Britney Spears was part of an attempt to inject humor into the presidential race.
On Sunday, Hilton's mother, Kathy Hilton, a McCain donor, registered her disapproval.
"It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs," Kathy Hilton said in a short article posted on the liberal Huffington Post Web site. "And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next president of the United States."
The ad plays on Obama's popularity by dismissing him as a mere celebrity, like Hilton and Spears. The Obama campaign has said the ad is proof that McCain would rather launch negative attacks than debate important issues.
McCain on Friday denied that his campaign had taken a negative turn, saying, "We think it's got a lot of humor in it, we're having fun and enjoying it."
Kathy Hilton, however, was unpersuaded, calling the ad "a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign."
Kathy Hilton and her husband donated a total of $4,600 to McCain's campaign earlier this year.

I could be wrong on this but i have heard the Hilton's have a little money left over after their $4600 donation to McCain's campaign.

"I am going out to pick blueberries now. We will take this up later. In the meanwhile, I thought McCain made quite an issue of the fact that he was opposed to torture. Am I mistaken? "

God I wish you were trolling cause this would be so good.

McCain being dissed by the Hiltons brings to mind Oscar Wilde's famous comment about foxhunting: The inedible being pursued by the unspeakable.

It does seem there is little or no forethought even at the highest levels of McCain's campaign.

Now this is not so damaging as you might expect. The last eight years have shown conclusively that one can be president without having any forethought at all.

Edit:
While Lois is reading the book suggested I think we may assume she will also be asking herself if she were innocent would she consider a system just that:
1. after taking her prisoner waited years before presenting a charge
2. denied her legal counsel of her chosing
3. repeatedly and with forethought brought her near death by drowning
4. subjected their possession of her body to no higher review

In the case she finds this treatment unjust we will be interested to hear her judgement of what corrective measures are appropriate to be taken against the perpetrators of this chain of events.

Very interested.

Locker, I reckon that Obama would make a great POTUS for one simple reason: I have yet to see one bad photo of the guy, unlike the one that you posted about McKinney, the number of McCain and Hillary bad pix on the net and the infinite (poor) photos of Bush (and he does look like a chimpanzee).

Obama is more photogenic than JFK.

All hail the leader.

JFK was much more imposing in person than by photograph. In 1961 his was the first perfect chemical tan I had ever seen. Back then tans were entirely natural.

When campaigning he also had the habit of putting himself in indefensible positions. The handlers of candidates like that must get no rest.

I have to believe it will be too difficult for Lois to make the leap of understanding required to believe that many(if not most) of the Guantanamo prisoners are innocent. Like so many, she will stand by the notion that people don't just find themselves detained; they must have done something to have it happen. She is far from the only one who would hold that belief, unfortunately.

Well, I'm not John, but perhaps I can help. I googled "McCain torture support". One of the top hits was an article from ABC News on February 15th 2008. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/02/did-mccain-flip.html

The article begins:

"This week, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., voted against an intelligence bill that stated:

"No individual in the custody or under the effective control of an element of the intelligence community or instrumentality thereof, regardless of nationality or physical location, shall be subject to any treatment or technique of interrogation not authorized by the United States Army Field Manual on Human Intelligence Collector Operations."

By voting against a bill to ban torture, McCain tacitly implied that he didn't oppose torture, including some practices of the current administration. There's a tiny bit of plausible deniability - but then what government or politician would be fool enough to propose legislation that did the opposite, and clearly authorized torture?

As McCain had previously been forthright in his opposition to torture, including some practices of the current government, it was a reversal of what he said previously.

A similar report is at http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/02/16/mccain_drops_the_torture_ball/, and there are numerous others.

There is no moral difference between authorizing torture, and merely enabling it, if you know the end result will be the same.

Now Lois, don't you think it's time you started looking into things for yourself?

I mean, demanding that you be provided with unerring proof of your misconceptions when it seems the whole world knows about McCain's flip flop is a bit much, to the point of presumptuous arrogance, wouldn't you say?

Maybe one day you will learn to google.

Maybe one day you will stop being so smug, and yes, you are smug.

You are going to vote for this lunatic McCain and help finish sending the country straight to hell.

I disagree doggie. Vote repub, same old s#@t, vote dem, we begin setting the standard in the world for alternative energy, we get a health plan that works for all, we get our infrastructure fixed by removing the tax credits to the wealthy, we get companies recieving incentives to keep jobs in America, we put unemployed workers back to work.

Further more we get our civil right back. You did not know they were taken from you did you. And if you are lucky, Lois will give you some blueberry pie.

So, we do win with the democrats.

In 2000 I had become convinced of the "same sh#t either way" with the Dems vs Repubs. Wow was I wrong about that.

LEB- This is not the first or the fifth or the fifteenth time that you have buried yourself in a debate up to your neck with virtually no background on the issue and then asked for people to spoonfeed you information. Please stop acting all butthurt. We've been asking you to start doing some reading or something for like 2 years now.

What he said Lois.

It's not the first, second or third time.

Furthermore, the info is readily available and seems to be widespread knowledge.

SOl, stop dodging and report back when you have read the links.

And I'm going to hold your feet to the fire on that book, The Dark Side.
