You can verb any word you like in US English, but that doesn't mean it doesn't sound lame. "refer to the dictionary" sounds better than "reference the dictionary".

hey there say, all...
not that i am sick of the words, but i do REALIZE there is a problem here, when hearing these-such over-and-over from the grandkids, so i CALL them out, on it:
1--"huh?" (after i place a sentence out into their as-close-as-possible airwaves)... (after refusing to respond with a repeat, it turns out they HEARD me all along, as i full-well knew)...
2--"hold up" (when i need some "action" out of them, while they are on a handheld video game, letting the world revolved around them,uselessly) *that is why, here, we do NOT USE them, we do things together when they come over...
3--the ol'
"un-huh, unh-unh" battle between sisters...
4--"but i don't like it" (to any and all food that their mom sends over for them to eat for breakfast, lunch, or supper)...

Dude, send and the word "like".
Like is used five or six sometimes all in the same sentence!
And I still don't know what they are trying to say.
